The steady increase suggests a gradual shift in consumer preference as charging infrastructure expands and automakers broaden their EV portfolios.

Tata Motors Maintains Clear Market Leadership

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd remained the dominant player in the electric passenger vehicle segment. The company sold 5,568 units in February 2026, registering a 38.51% year-on-year increase compared to 4,020 units in February 2025. However, sales declined 30.46% from January 2026 levels when the automaker had delivered 8,007 electric cars.

Mahindra & Mahindra Emerges as Fastest Growing Player

Mahindra & Mahindra recorded the most dramatic annual growth among major manufacturers. Sales surged 473.43% from 508 units in February 2025 to 2,913 units in February 2026. The increase is largely linked to the market ramp-up of the BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUV models.

Performance of Other EV Manufacturers

JSW MG Motor India secured second place with 3,312 units sold, although this represented a 29.58% decline compared with January and a 5.10% drop year on year. Hyundai Motor India experienced a sharp contraction as sales fell 60.77% from 775 units to 304 units. BYD India was one of the few companies to record sequential growth, increasing monthly volumes from 231 units in January to 306 units in February while also achieving a 10.07% annual gain.

The evolving competitive landscape highlights growing momentum in India’s electric passenger vehicle market as manufacturers expand model offerings and consumers increasingly consider electric mobility.
