Geely Introduces Integrated New-Energy Off-Road Technology
On August 28, Geely Automobile Group Co., Ltd. unveiled Geely AI-Powered Off-Road Technology for new energy off-road vehicles, combining three core innovations: the Geely Terrain Architecture (GTA), the Leishen EM-T dedicated off-road hybrid powertrain, and an AI all-terrain digital chassis. Developed for both off-road and urban driving, the technology is set to debut on the Yinhe Zhanjian 700 plug-in hybrid off-road SUV. The package is designed to combine structural strength, hybrid powertrain efficiency, intelligent chassis control, and terrain adaptability within a dedicated new energy off-road vehicle platform, extending Geely’s electrified technology approach into a segment traditionally dominated by conventional frame-based architectures.
GTA Architecture Targets Strength, Space, and Weight Reduction
The GTA architecture is designed specifically for new energy off-road vehicles and introduces changes across body structure, powertrain packaging, intelligent chassis capability, and full-domain safety. Its structure combines unibody construction with an integrated frame and extensive use of high-strength steel, producing torsional rigidity above 40,000 Nm/deg, which Geely Automobile Group Co., Ltd. says is more than twice that of conventional body-on-frame off-road vehicles. The roof can withstand a load equivalent to 5.8 times the vehicle’s weight, while the integrated frame weighs 100 kg less than a conventional separate frame. Combined with other lightweighting measures, the approach reduces the Yinhe Zhanjian 700’s overall weight by 200 kg.
The GTA design also creates additional packaging space for the vehicle’s chassis and cabin. It provides 80 mm of additional vertical chassis space compared with a conventional frame structure, allowing greater ground clearance for the battery pack, while increasing cabin vertical height by as much as 70 mm. Geely says these changes support improved off-road capability, ride comfort, and interior flexibility. The architecture is also claimed to improve overall dynamic performance by more than 30%, with handling and ride comfort exceeding those of conventional off-road vehicles. These structural gains are intended to balance the packaging and durability demands of an electrified off-road platform.
Leishen EM-T Combines Hybrid Efficiency With High Output
The Leishen EM-T system combines a dedicated 2.0T off-road hybrid engine with 48.41% thermal efficiency, a dedicated three-speed off-road hybrid electric drive, and a dual-motor off-road drive system with a mechanical locking mechanism. Geely Automobile Group Co., Ltd. states that the system delivers a combined power output of 830 kW and wheel-end torque of 13,920 Nm. The powertrain is supported by the AI scenario engine of Xingrui AI Cloud Power, which determines an engine-electric power management strategy for different driving conditions. This control approach reduces energy consumption by more than 15%, according to Geely’s stated performance data.
For the Yinhe Zhanjian 700, the powertrain technology is also aimed at combining off-road capability with practical urban efficiency and long-distance usability. The 1.5T two-wheel-drive version is claimed to achieve minimum charge-sustaining fuel consumption in the 5 L/100 km range under urban driving conditions. Its maximum CLTC combined range is stated at 1,700 km. These figures illustrate the intended role of the EM-T system beyond peak output, using hybrid power management to support lower energy consumption during everyday driving while retaining the high-output hardware and mechanical capability required for demanding terrain.
AI Digital Chassis Automates Multi-Terrain Control
The AI all-terrain digital chassis is based on Geely’s EEA 4.0 electrical/electronic architecture and supports 9+6+X multi-terrain modes. It uses AI to identify road conditions ahead and automatically select an appropriate driving mode, while also adjusting torque, suspension settings, vehicle attitude, and other parameters. By coordinating these functions through a digital chassis approach, the system is designed to reduce the need for manual mode selection across changing surfaces. Its combination of predictive road-condition recognition and real-time vehicle control forms the third major technology pillar alongside the GTA architecture and Leishen EM-T powertrain.
