West Zone Construction Begins in Hubei
The Intelligent Auto Park West Zone was officially inaugurated and construction began on August 25 in Hanchuan City, Hubei Province. The project is being jointly developed by the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) and Hanchuan City, establishing another major development area within the broader Intelligent Connected and Electric Vehicle Industrial Park. The West Zone is planned to cover 1.84 km² and will be developed through three stages, with an initial area of approximately 0.24 km², a mid-term area of approximately 1.84 km², and a long-term area of approximately 6.67 km². The development expands the industrial footprint of Hubei Province.
Investment and Planned Development
The initial development phase represents an investment of approximately CNY 1.5 billion and will provide a planned gross floor area of 180,000 m². Construction will proceed in two phases, with Phase 1 covering production facilities, research and development and office buildings, residential facilities, and other supporting infrastructure. The first companies are expected to move into the park by June 2027, creating a planned base for companies involved in automotive and related industrial segments. The project adds new industrial capacity to Hubei Province while combining manufacturing, development, and supporting facilities within one coordinated site.
Focus on Automotive Components and Emerging Industries
The West Zone will concentrate on new energy vehicle and intelligent connected vehicle components through five core areas: smart cockpit functional materials, automotive interior and exterior components, electrical system components, lightweight body materials, and chassis structural components. Alongside these automotive activities, the project will develop five emerging industries with synergies to the automotive sector: advanced materials, automotive semiconductors, industrial robot components, advanced energy storage equipment, and smart home products. This combination is intended to broaden the park’s industrial base while strengthening specialized component capabilities within Hubei Province and the surrounding automotive ecosystem.
Coordinated Development Across Three Areas
The development is also being coordinated with the Intelligent Auto Park North Zone, where construction began on July 31 through a joint development effort involving WEDZ and Caidian District. The North Zone covers approximately 2.1 km². Together with the headquarters area, the North and West zones establish a coordinated development structure: the headquarters area will emphasize innovation, research and development, and headquarters functions; the North Zone will focus on supporting manufacturing; and the West Zone will expand industrial clusters in specialized segments. The three-area structure gives the Intelligent Auto Park distinct but complementary roles across Hubei Province.
