JDI Completes Tottori Fab Sale and Handover
Japan Display Inc. (JDI) announced on August 24 that it had completed the sale and handover of its Tottori Fab, which had produced automotive displays, to Yahata Touei Estate K.K. The transaction was completed ahead of the originally scheduled September 30 handover date, while the sale price was not disclosed. JDI expects to record an extraordinary gain of approximately JPY 500 million from the transaction in FY27/3 H1. The sale forms part of the company’s efforts to strengthen competitiveness, improve profitability, and optimize asset efficiency in line with the scale of its operations.
Automotive Development Will Continue in Tottori
LCD production at the Tottori Fab ended in March 2025, and JDI is now relocating the business activities that remain at the site. Development and design activities related to its AutoTech automotive display business will continue through a newly established Tottori Office in Tottori City, with the relocation scheduled for September 24, 2026. The transaction therefore transfers ownership of the former production facility without ending JDI’s automotive-related activities in the region. The company is continuing to operate its automotive business on an integrated basis following changes to its planned corporate structure and the broader business environment.
JDI Consolidates Automotive Production Capacity
JDI’s automotive business generated sales of JPY 108.794 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2026, representing 82.2% of consolidated sales. The company had previously planned to transfer its automotive-related operations to a newly established company, AutoTech, but canceled the planned spin-off in March 2026 because of changes in the business environment and its management situation. JDI will continue operating the business as an integrated operation while consolidating domestic production at Ishikawa Fab. It is also establishing back-end production capabilities for automotive products at its Philippine subsidiary, Nanox Philippines, as part of its manufacturing structure.
The completed transaction reflects a broader restructuring of JDI’s production footprint while retaining its automotive display development capabilities. The company’s automotive operations remain a central contributor to its business, despite the closure of LCD production at Tottori Fab and the subsequent transfer of the facility. By moving ongoing development and design activities to the Tottori Office, JDI can retain its local automotive engineering operations without maintaining the former manufacturing site. The company’s production strategy now combines consolidated domestic manufacturing at Ishikawa Fab with planned automotive back-end capabilities at Nanox Philippines, while the integrated automotive business continues under JDI.
