India Approves 31 Additional Electronics Component Projects

On August 17, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) approved 31 additional projects under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme, taking total approvals to 106 projects across 15 states. The approved projects represent a combined investment of INR 695.48 billion and are expected to generate output worth INR 5,340 billion, while creating 74,628 direct jobs. The latest approvals alone account for INR 78.77 billion in investment and are expected to create 9,588 direct employment opportunities, strengthening domestic manufacturing across several critical electronics component categories.

Projects Cover Critical Electronics Components

The newly approved projects span a broad range of components supporting automotive, electronics and other industrial applications. The portfolio includes display and camera modules, optical transceivers, connectors, relays, sensors, capacitors, coils, filters, antennas, enclosures, rare-earth permanent magnets and lithium-ion battery materials. Key approvals include Minda Instrument and TXB Optics for display module sub-assemblies, SkyQuad Electronics & Appliances for camera module sub-assemblies, and Amphenol Interconnect India, Ennovi Mobility Solutions India and Rosenberger Interconnect India for connectors.

Battery Materials and Electronic Components Gain Focus

Several approved projects are focused on materials and components that are important for strengthening domestic electronics and electric-mobility supply chains. Allied Engineering Works and Gruner India will support relay manufacturing, while Centum Electronics has been approved for transducers and filters. Globe Capacitors, Syrma SGS Technology and Wangda Technologies will address capacitors, coils and metal shielding covers, respectively. Other projects include Epsilon C2GR for lithium-ion battery anode material, Quantum Magnetics for rare-earth permanent magnets, PCBL Chemical for acetylene black and Acutaas Chemicals for electrolyte additives.

Domestic Capacity Expands Across Multiple Categories

Of the 106 projects approved under the programme, 38 plants have already commenced operations, while another 16 are at advanced construction or machinery-installation stages. The government stated that domestic manufacturing capacity now meets or exceeds demand in several component categories. Anode material capacity has reached about 110% of demand, while optical transceiver-SFP capacity stands at approximately 350% and relay capacity at around 200%. These figures indicate a significant expansion in local production capability and could help reduce dependence on imported components across electronics manufacturing supply chains.

Implications for India's Electronics Manufacturing Ecosystem

The scale of approvals and emerging domestic capacity points to a broader effort to build a more localized electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India. The approved projects cover components ranging from interconnects and passive components to battery materials and advanced electronic assemblies, creating opportunities for deeper domestic sourcing. As more facilities move into production, the programme could strengthen supply availability, expand manufacturing employment and support downstream industries that depend on locally produced components. The progress also provides a stronger foundation for developing integrated domestic supply chains across automotive electronics, energy storage and wider electronics applications.
