Policy Support and Product Strategy Boost Demand
According to Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer for Sales and Marketing at Maruti Suzuki India, three major tailwinds supported industry growth during the month. These included GST 2.0, lower repo rates and income tax relief aimed at entry-level buyers. He said that offering the right products at competitive prices continued to unlock significant demand in the entry-level passenger vehicle market. During July, small-car volumes increased by 63%, while SUV sales registered growth of 48%.
CNG Portfolio Helps Offset Fuel Price Pressure
Although higher fuel prices continued to pose a challenge for buyers, Banerjee stated that the company had mitigated the impact through an expanded compressed natural gas product portfolio. He said Maruti Suzuki successfully countered fuel cost concerns by offering more CNG-powered vehicles across multiple models. The company also recorded its highest-ever monthly CNG sales, reaching nearly 83,000 units, reflecting growing customer preference for lower operating costs.
Historic Wholesale Milestone and Supply Expansion
Maruti Suzuki reported total domestic wholesales of 211,365 units during July, including light commercial vehicles and supplies to other original equipment manufacturers. Banerjee described crossing the two lakh-unit monthly wholesale mark as a historic achievement for an Indian automobile manufacturer, noting that only two brands in mainland China currently average more than two lakh monthly sales within a single domestic market. Management added that supply constraints, rather than demand, remain the primary challenge and expects recently commissioned production lines to improve vehicle availability over the next three to four months, particularly for SUVs and CNG models. Dealer inventory remained at around 16 days following record July retail sales, supporting healthy momentum ahead of the festive season.
