On July 30, ZF Friedrichshafen AG Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division presented the ZF 360° safety concept for trucks and trailers ahead of IAA Transportation 2026. The technology introduces a scalable safety framework that combines sensing, perception, braking and steering functions into a coordinated system. The approach is designed to extend active safety capabilities beyond the truck itself and integrate trailers as a part of the overall vehicle perception environment.

The ZF 360° safety concept enables trucks and trailers to operate as a connected safety system through a high-speed automotive Ethernet communications interface. Using this connection, sensor information from radar and camera systems installed on both truck and trailer can be combined into a unified environmental model. This allows continuous 360° object detection around the complete commercial vehicle combination and supports improved awareness in complex driving conditions.

ZF’s latest safety architecture also includes a Driver Monitoring System (DMS) designed to identify driver distraction and fatigue. The system can actively intervene when safety risks are detected, supporting safer commercial vehicle operation. The ADAS architecture follows a scalable design approach and is supported by next-generation radar and camera technologies that enable future automation and enhanced safety features for trucks.
