The government stated that a joint evaluation conducted by Indian Oil Corp, Indian Institute of Petroleum, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers and Automotive Research Association of India found that E20 fuel does not require engine modifications for cars and two-wheelers.

The studies concluded that legacy vehicles also did not show significant changes in performance or abnormal wear when operated with E20 petrol. The ethanol blending roadmap was prepared after discussions with automobile manufacturers, oil companies and agricultural experts before E20 petrol implementation. The government stated that the Ethanol Blended Petrol programme followed a phased, calibrated, scientifically validated and consultative approach.

The government further stated that Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers has not reported widespread engine failures or vehicle breakdowns linked to ethanol blending.
