Quick Takeaways
  • Honda Odyssey recall affects 325588 vehicles in America.
  • Camera housing defects may disable reverse visibility display.

American Honda Motor Co. has announced a safety recall covering 325,588 model-year 2018–2020 Odyssey vehicles in the United States. According to the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, water may enter the rearview camera assembly and corrode the printed circuit board (PCB). If corrosion develops, the rearview camera image may fail to appear when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, preventing the affected vehicles from meeting the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 111 covering rear visibility.

Cause of the Rearview Camera Issue

The affected rearview cameras were supplied by Magna Electronics Holly. American Honda Motor Co explained that the housing boss hole specification for the camera was insufficient for the mounting screw. Variations in housing positioning during the assembly process could cause the mounting screw to become misaligned. As the screw is tightened, excessive stress may exceed the material strength of the housing boss, creating cracks that allow water to enter the camera assembly over time.

Recall Details and Customer Remedy

The manufacturer stated that moisture intrusion can eventually corrode the printed circuit board inside the rearview camera, leading to the loss of the rear camera image while reversing. Because the display may no longer function as intended, the affected vehicles do not comply with FMVSS No. 111 requirements for rear visibility. Owners of impacted vehicles will receive notification letters beginning on August 24, 2026, and authorized dealers will replace the rearview camera at no cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Honda recalling certain 2018–2020 Odyssey vehicles?
The recall addresses a defect in the rearview camera assembly that may allow water to enter and corrode the printed circuit board. Over time, the damage can prevent the rearview camera image from appearing when the vehicle is placed in reverse, causing the affected vehicles to fall short of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111 requirements for rear visibility. Honda will notify owners and replace the faulty rearview camera free of charge through authorized dealers.
