- Lexus enters India’s BEV segment with ES500e offering 580 km range and AWD system
- Model features TNGA platform, advanced ADAS suite, and premium luxury interior
Lexus India has introduced its first battery electric offering, the Lexus India ES500e electric sedan, in New Delhi, marking the brand’s strategic expansion into the country’s luxury EV segment. Priced at ₹89,99,000 (ex-showroom), bookings are now open across its Guest Experience Centres nationwide. This development positions the brand among a limited group of global luxury manufacturers deploying a dedicated BEV architecture in India, reinforcing its long-term electrification roadmap.
Powertrain, Range, and Charging Capabilities
The sedan is equipped with a newly engineered 74.68 kWh lithium-ion battery delivering a peak output of 252 kW. Certified by ARAI, the vehicle offers a driving range of up to 580 km on a single charge, supporting long-distance usability. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 5.5 seconds, reflecting strong performance credentials. The system supports 150 kW DC fast charging, enabling a 10–80% charge in approximately 28 minutes under optimal thermal conditions, while compatibility with both AC and DC charging infrastructure ensures flexibility for users.
Platform Architecture and Driving Dynamics
Built on the TNGA GA-K platform, the model benefits from enhanced structural rigidity, reduced vibrations, and improved steering feedback. The architecture supports a low centre of gravity, contributing to stable handling and ride comfort. Suspension duties are managed by a MacPherson strut setup at the front and a multi-link configuration at the rear, marking a first for this model line. The integrated DIRECT4 all-wheel drive system combines front and rear eAxles, dynamically distributing torque to maintain traction, efficiency, and stability under varying driving conditions.
Vehicle Dimensions and Configuration
The sedan measures 5,145 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,575 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. It is offered exclusively in an all-wheel drive configuration and rides on 235/45R21 tyres. These proportions provide a spacious cabin environment while supporting aerodynamic efficiency and a planted road stance.
Exterior and Interior Design Philosophy
The exterior follows a Clean Tech x Elegance theme inspired by the LF-ZC concept, integrating a flowing silhouette with a next-generation spindle body. Distinctive elements include Twin L-Signature headlamps and a continuous rear light bar incorporating the illuminated logo. The tapered rear profile enhances the perception of a low centre of gravity. Available colour options include White Nova, Sonic Titanium, Graphite Black, Sonic Copper, and Sou.
Cabin Experience and Digital Features
The interior reflects a Time is Luxury philosophy, combining refined materials and digital integration. It features a 12.3-inch digital display alongside a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen. Materials such as suede and Micro Geo patterning add a contemporary aesthetic, complemented by ambient lighting and surface-illuminated door trims. A Mark Levinson surround sound system with 3D audio enhances the in-cabin experience, while comfort features include automatic door closure and a powered boot lid.
Advanced Technology and Connectivity
The sedan introduces Responsive Hidden Switches, touch-sensitive controls integrated into the steering wheel and dashboard that remain concealed when inactive. Connected services enable remote monitoring of battery status, range estimation, charging schedules, and trip data through a dedicated mobile application. Additional remote functions include cabin pre-conditioning such as air conditioning and seat adjustments. Compatibility extends to both smartphones and smartwatches, with integrated live tracking and emergency assistance features included as standard.
Safety Systems and Ownership Benefits
The model incorporates the latest Lexus Safety System+, featuring a comprehensive ADAS suite that includes Pre-Collision System, Auto Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Adaptive High Beam System, and a driver monitoring camera. Additional systems such as Blind Spot Monitoring and a panoramic 3D view camera enhance situational awareness and safety.
Ownership benefits include an 8-year or 200,000 km warranty covering both the vehicle and battery, along with a 5-year roadside assistance programme. Charging solutions include a 2.8 kW portable charger and an 11 kW home charger. Customers also have access to flexible service packages and an assured buyback programme with guaranteed residual value options, supporting long-term ownership confidence.
The ES nameplate, introduced in 1989, has evolved into a globally recognized model sold across more than 80 markets. With this electric iteration, Lexus strengthens its transition from hybrid leadership toward full electrification in India, while continuing to balance performance, comfort, and sustainability in its product strategy.
