Quick Takeaways
  • Buick introduces a premium electric MPV with 601km range and fast charging capability
  • Advanced AI cockpit and LiDAR-based ADAS enhance user experience and automation

In a move highlighting its electrification strategy, Buick has introduced a new premium electric multi-purpose vehicle aimed at the upper segment of the market. The Buick Electra Encasa EV flagship MPV was officially launched on March 17 at a price of CNY 489,900. Positioned as a high-end offering, the model blends performance, digital intelligence, and spacious design, targeting evolving consumer expectations in China’s competitive electric mobility landscape.

Dimensions and Platform Architecture

The vehicle is designed with a focus on interior space and road presence, measuring 5,260mm in length, 2,023mm in width, and 1,820mm in height. Its extended wheelbase of 3,160mm supports improved cabin comfort and stability, making it suitable for both executive and family usage scenarios. The large footprint also allows for better integration of battery systems and advanced electronics without compromising passenger space.

Performance and Battery Capabilities

The model adopts a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration, delivering a combined high-performance output. The front motor produces 332kW and 380Nm of torque, while the rear unit contributes 150kW and 170Nm. This setup enables the MPV to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds, placing it among the faster vehicles in its segment. Equipped with a 96kWh high-density battery, it achieves a CLTC driving range of 601km, while rapid charging technology allows approximately 400km of range to be added within 10 minutes.

Intelligent Cockpit and Digital Experience

The interior integrates advanced computing and display technologies to enhance user interaction. A Qualcomm 8775 intelligent cockpit chip powers the system, enabling seamless processing for infotainment and AI-driven features. A 50-inch panoramic augmented reality head-up display provides real-time driving information directly in the driver’s field of view. Additionally, an AI-based intelligent speech assistant enhances convenience by enabling natural voice interaction for various vehicle functions.

Advanced Driver Assistance and Automation

The MPV incorporates the Xiao Yao Zhi Xing advanced driver assistance system, designed to support high-level automated driving scenarios. The hardware suite includes one LiDAR sensor and seven high-definition cameras, ensuring comprehensive environmental perception. Supported by the Momenta R6 reinforcement learning model, the system enables features such as continuous City Navigate on Autopilot without interruption and automated parking without stops. These capabilities reflect a shift toward more intelligent and adaptive driving systems in premium electric vehicles.

With its combination of long-range capability, rapid charging, intelligent cockpit features, and advanced driver assistance technologies, the model reinforces Buick’s commitment to innovation and premium positioning within the electric mobility space.
