Quick Takeaways
  • SAIC-VW begins mass production of a long-range extended electric SUV with 800V architecture
  • ID. ERA 9X integrates advanced chassis, cockpit, and AI-driven driver assistance technologies

SAIC-VW has introduced a new extended-range electric SUV as part of its ID. ERA lineup, marking a significant expansion of its electrified vehicle portfolio in China. The SAIC-VW ID. ERA 9X SUV range extender platform enters mass production at the Ningbo facility and is scheduled for pre-orders shortly after launch. Positioned as a large premium SUV, the model combines extended driving range with advanced chassis and cockpit technologies tailored for modern mobility demands.

Dimensions and Platform Architecture

The SUV is built with a focus on spacious design and structural balance, measuring over five meters in length with a wide stance and long wheelbase. These proportions support interior comfort while enabling stable high-speed performance. The architecture integrates an 800V silicon carbide system, improving energy efficiency and enabling faster power delivery. This high-voltage platform also enhances overall drivetrain responsiveness, making it suitable for both urban and long-distance driving scenarios.

Powertrain and Range Performance

The vehicle is powered by a combination of electric motors and a compact range extender engine, delivering a total output of 380kW and 660Nm. A 65.2kWh battery pack supports strong discharge capability even at low charge levels, ensuring consistent performance. The electric-only driving range exceeds 400km under CLTC conditions, while the combined range surpasses 1,600km. Even in low battery conditions, the system maintains fuel efficiency, particularly in the all-wheel-drive variant designed for enhanced traction.

Advanced Chassis and Suspension Systems

The model incorporates an intelligent chassis system designed to balance ride comfort and handling precision. It features a front double-wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension setup, with extensive use of lightweight aluminum components to optimize strength and weight. A dual-chamber air suspension system offers adjustable ride height across multiple levels, improving accessibility and adaptability. The Dynamic Chassis Control system further enables fine-tuned adjustments, allowing the vehicle to respond effectively to varying road conditions.

Smart Cockpit and Interior Innovation

Inside the cabin, the vehicle integrates a digitally advanced cockpit tailored for family-oriented use. A concealed Smart Surface display is embedded beneath a wood-finish panel using precision laser technology, creating a seamless interface. Rear passengers benefit from an intelligent display system that includes blind spot compensation features, enhancing safety awareness. The cockpit design emphasizes minimalism while incorporating high-functionality digital elements for both driver and passengers.

Intelligent Driving Assistance Integration

The SUV debuts a next-generation driver assistance system powered by a reinforcement learning-based world model. This system enhances perception and decision-making capabilities, enabling more adaptive and predictive driving support. By leveraging AI-driven learning mechanisms, the vehicle aims to improve safety and driving efficiency across diverse traffic environments, positioning it as a technologically advanced entrant in the extended-range electric SUV segment.

With its combination of long-range capability, high-voltage architecture, intelligent chassis, and AI-enabled features, the model reflects a strategic push toward next-generation electrified mobility solutions in the Chinese automotive market.
