- EU approves €4.6 billion grant request supporting EV adoption and charging infrastructure in Germany.
- Funding also strengthens hydrogen research projects aligned with the national hydrogen strategy.
The European Commission has approved a new funding disbursement to Germany under the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility, a key financial instrument within the NextGenerationEU program. The decision authorizes the release of €4.6 billion in grants following a positive evaluation of the country’s third payment request. A significant share of the support targets the automotive transition toward cleaner mobility, particularly electric vehicles, charging networks, and hydrogen innovation initiatives.
EU Funding Accelerates Electric Mobility
Part of the approved financing will stimulate demand for battery-powered mobility solutions by supporting the purchase of nearly 400,000 electric vehicles. The measure aims to accelerate electrification in the passenger car segment while helping reduce transport-related emissions. Through this initiative, the European Commission intends to strengthen the transition to zero-emission mobility while encouraging consumers and fleet operators to adopt electric powertrains across Germany.
Charging Infrastructure and Hydrogen Research Expansion
The program also includes infrastructure development and innovation investments tied to Germany Recovery and Resilience Facility EV funding. More than 2,500 publicly accessible recharging stations are expected to be installed nationwide, improving charging accessibility for EV users. In parallel, funding will be directed toward hydrogen technology research aligned with the country’s National Hydrogen Strategy, supporting long-term development of fuel cell systems and sustainable energy solutions for the transport sector.
