The BMW M 1000 R roadster India launch marks the arrival of one of the most powerful performance-focused naked motorcycles available in the country. Introduced in Gurugram, the new flagship roadster combines the racing DNA of BMW’s M performance division with everyday road usability. The motorcycle is priced at ₹33,50,000 (ex-showroom) and will be offered as a completely built-up unit through authorised dealerships across India. Customers can begin placing pre-orders immediately, while deliveries are scheduled to commence from May 2026.
According to the leadership of BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle reflects the brand’s effort to bring track-inspired engineering into a roadster format. The model targets riders seeking a machine capable of delivering high-performance dynamics on public roads while also offering track-ready capabilities. Positioned at the top of the company’s roadster portfolio, the motorcycle reinforces the brand’s presence in India’s premium superbike segment.
High-Performance Engine Architecture
The motorcycle is powered by a water-cooled inline four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 999 cc. This power unit is derived from the architecture used in the homologation-spec superbike designed for international racing championships. The engine produces 210 horsepower at 13,750 rpm and delivers a peak torque output of 113 Nm at 11,100 rpm. Performance figures include a claimed acceleration time of 0–100 km/h in approximately 3.2 seconds, while the top speed reaches around 280 km/h.
ShiftCam Technology and Internal Enhancements
The powertrain integrates BMW’s ShiftCam variable valve timing technology, which adjusts valve timing and lift depending on engine speed. This system enables stronger torque delivery across a wider rev range while maintaining peak output at higher rpm levels. Several mechanical upgrades contribute to performance improvements, including titanium valves, revised exhaust-side spring assemblies, lighter cam followers and optimised camshaft profiles. The intake system also uses shorter funnels designed to enhance airflow at higher engine speeds.
Aerodynamics and Chassis Engineering
The motorcycle incorporates aerodynamic and structural features derived from BMW’s high-performance superbike platform. Carbon fibre winglets positioned at the front generate measurable aerodynamic downforce during both upright riding and aggressive cornering. At a speed of 220 km/h, the aerodynamic elements increase front wheel load by approximately 11 kilograms, which improves stability and steering precision at high velocities.
Advanced Rider Control Systems
The motorcycle includes an M Quick Action Throttle designed to reduce the rotational movement required to reach full throttle. This configuration allows riders to apply acceleration inputs more rapidly while reducing wrist fatigue during extended riding sessions. In addition, redesigned front mudguards incorporate integrated brake ducts that guide airflow around the fork legs and brake callipers, improving thermal efficiency and aerodynamic stability.
Electronics and Riding Assistance
The electronics package includes seven riding modes: Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race, and three programmable Race Pro modes. A revised Dynamic Traction Control system, derived from the brand’s racing superbike platform, provides precise traction management during aggressive riding conditions. The system operates through a six-axis sensor unit that also enables wheelie control functionality. Advanced track-oriented features such as Launch Control and a pit-lane speed limiter become available through the Pro modes.
Instrumentation and Connectivity Features
The motorcycle features a 6.5-inch TFT instrument display that includes an M-branded start-up animation and a redesigned rev counter layout. The display also supports onboard diagnostics connectivity for optional accessories such as the M GPS Datalogger and M GPS Laptrigger. Standard equipment includes adaptive turning lights, electronic cruise control, heated grips, a lightweight M battery and a rear-mounted USB charging socket.
Variants, Packages and Market Position
The standard motorcycle is available in two colour options: Light White non-metallic with M Motorsport graphics and White Aluminum metallic matte. Buyers can also select an optional M Competition Package that adds carbon fibre wheels, multiple carbon body components, a fully adjustable milled rider footrest system and specialised track accessories. Additional upgrades include components such as a carbon rear wheel cover, chain guard, airbox cover, wind deflector and sprocket cover.
All motorcycles sold by BMW Motorrad in India include a three-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, with optional extensions available for the fourth and fifth year. A 24-hour roadside assistance program is also included. The motorcycle competes in India’s expanding premium superbike category, where international manufacturers such as Ducati, Aprilia, KTM and Triumph have been introducing high-performance imported models to meet rising demand among enthusiast riders.
