Rather than treating vehicle sound as a secondary feature, the design team approached it as an integral part of the user experience. Engineers and designers collaborated to ensure that every tone, notification, and interaction sound contributes to a cohesive sensory experience that drivers and passengers can instantly associate with the Scout brand.
Designing a Distinctive Acoustic Identity
The company’s designers developed a library of sounds tailored to different driving situations and user interactions. Each sound is engineered to be unique while still belonging to a consistent audio signature across the vehicle lineup. According to Chris Benjamin, Chief Design Officer at Scout Motors, the concept focuses on building a connection between digital interfaces and physical driving sensations. The aim is to produce sounds that are not only functional but emotionally memorable, reinforcing the brand’s identity through subtle yet recognizable acoustic cues.
Capturing Heritage and Crafting Modern Vehicle Audio
To build authenticity into the sound experience, engineers recorded audio samples from a vintage Scout vehicle inside the company’s anechoic chamber in Novi, Michigan. These recordings helped capture the historical character of the brand before translating it into a modern electric vehicle context. The Scout Motors electric vehicle sound design process also incorporated handcrafted acoustic guitar recordings from a Nashville studio, blending heritage inspiration with contemporary sound engineering to define the voice of the new electric models.

UX design leaders emphasized that vehicle sound plays a crucial role in shaping how drivers perceive electric mobility. Andre Nitze-Nelson, Director of UX Design at Scout Motors, explained that the audio development process combined heritage recordings with studio-crafted musical elements to form a new auditory identity.
