Quick Takeaways
  • Geely introduces the Galaxy M7 hybrid SUV with up to 225 km pure electric range and 1,730 km combined range.
  • The model targets China’s highly competitive 100,000–150,000 yuan family SUV segment dominated by plug-in hybrids.

Geely Auto has unveiled the Geely Galaxy M7 Hybrid SUV as part of its strategy to strengthen its position in China’s increasingly competitive mass-market vehicle segment. The new model expands the Geely Galaxy lineup and represents the first mid-size sport utility vehicle in the brand’s M series. Designed primarily for family-oriented buyers, the vehicle combines hybrid efficiency with extended driving capability, aiming to attract customers seeking practical mobility solutions in the price-sensitive SUV category across China.

Hybrid Powertrain and Extended Driving Capability

The SUV integrates a hybrid system pairing a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine with a lithium iron phosphate battery pack. This configuration enables the vehicle to deliver a maximum pure electric driving range of up to 225 kilometers, which is designed to cover daily urban commuting requirements for many households. Under conditions where both the fuel tank and battery are fully charged, the model can achieve a combined driving range of approximately 1,730 kilometers, helping reduce concerns related to long-distance travel and charging availability.

Targeting the Family-Oriented SUV Segment

The vehicle is expected to enter the domestic market during the first half of the year. While official pricing details have not yet been disclosed, industry expectations suggest the final price will be positioned well below the larger M9 SUV, which currently sells for around 173,800 yuan after discounts. The model is intended to compete within the 100,000 to 150,000 yuan range, a highly competitive segment where plug-in hybrid vehicles have gained strong traction among family buyers seeking cost-efficient alternatives.

Growing Importance of Plug-in Hybrid Models

The launch timing reflects strong growth momentum in plug-in hybrid sales for Geely. In February, the company reported that its plug-in hybrid electric vehicle segment recorded sales of 49,656 units, representing an increase of roughly 89 percent compared with the previous year despite the period typically being a seasonal slowdown. The first production unit of the new SUV recently rolled off the assembly line at the company’s battery subsidiary facility in Quzhou, marking a milestone for the Geely Galaxy brand, which has surpassed two million cumulative vehicles produced within just 37 months since its launch.
