According to figures released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on March 13, 2026, domestic vehicle sales reached 23,01,355 units, marking nearly a 30% increase compared with 17,73,650 units recorded in February 2025. The data also shows significant gains in vehicle production and exports, indicating healthy momentum in both domestic consumption and global shipments from India.
India Vehicle Production and Export Growth
Alongside rising domestic sales, vehicle production across India’s automotive sector recorded a strong increase during February 2026. Total manufacturing output reached 28,64,612 units, representing approximately 22% growth compared with 23,46,258 units produced in February 2025. Export performance also strengthened during the same period as global demand for Indian-manufactured vehicles continued to expand, particularly for entry-level models and two-wheelers.
Vehicle exports from India totaled 6,08,284 units in February 2026, reflecting a year-on-year increase of around 28% from 4,74,328 units. Two-Wheelers Drive India’s Automobile Market Expansion
Two-wheelers remained the dominant force behind the strong performance recorded in February 2026. Domestic sales in this segment reached 18,71,406 units, representing roughly 35% growth compared with 13,84,605 units in the same month a year earlier. Production levels also increased significantly as manufacturers scaled output to meet rising domestic demand and sustained export orders from international markets.
Two-wheeler production climbed to 23,11,594 units during the month, an increase of about 24% compared with February 2025. Export shipments also rose steadily, reaching 4,92,414 units, reflecting approximately 26% year-on-year growth. Several major manufacturers contributed to this expansion as both commuter motorcycles and premium models continued to attract strong demand in domestic and overseas markets.
Leading Two-Wheeler Manufacturers by Volume
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India led two-wheeler production with 5,53,308 units during February 2026. Hero MotoCorp followed closely with 5,26,349 units, while TVS Motor Company produced 4,88,519 units during the month. In domestic sales, Hero MotoCorp reported 5,16,968 units, marginally ahead of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India which recorded 5,13,217 units in the same period.
Export Leaders in the Two-Wheeler Segment
Bajaj Auto continued to dominate two-wheeler exports, shipping 1,93,757 units internationally during February 2026. TVS Motor Company ranked second with exports of 1,42,391 units, while Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India exported 54,161 units. These figures illustrate India’s strong competitiveness in the global two-wheeler market, particularly in emerging economies where affordable motorcycles remain a key mobility solution.
Electric and Premium Motorcycle Segments Expand
Electric two-wheelers and premium motorcycle brands also showed notable growth during the month. Ather Energy nearly doubled its production to 26,484 units compared with 13,965 units in February 2025. Domestic sales followed a similar trajectory, reaching 26,467 units versus 13,482 units in the year-ago period, demonstrating continued adoption of electric mobility in India’s urban markets.
The company also recorded 160 export units in February 2026, marking its entry into overseas markets after reporting no exports in the same month last year. Premium motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield, part of Eicher Motors, produced 1,06,087 units and sold 91,248 units domestically, both higher than the corresponding figures recorded in February 2025. Suzuki Motorcycle India also crossed the one-lakh mark in domestic sales with 1,01,071 units.
Passenger Vehicle Segment Shows Stable Growth
Passenger vehicle sales in India grew at a more moderate pace compared with two-wheelers but still recorded steady gains. Domestic passenger vehicle sales reached 3,55,376 units in February 2026, representing around 7% growth from 3,31,254 units recorded during the same month in 2025. Several automakers maintained stable demand levels while continuing to expand export shipments.
Maruti Suzuki India remained the market leader with domestic sales of approximately 1,61,000 units, broadly similar to its 1,60,791 units recorded a year earlier. The company, however, recorded a sharp increase in exports, shipping 39,086 units compared with 24,876 units in February 2025. Other manufacturers also reported growth, including Mahindra & Mahindra with 60,018 units and Hyundai Motor India with 52,407 units sold domestically.
Kia India recorded domestic sales of 27,610 units during the month, while Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 30,734 units compared with 26,355 units a year earlier. Overall passenger vehicle exports increased about 34% to 75,892 units. Maruti Suzuki contributed the largest share, followed by Hyundai Motor India with 13,727 units and Nissan Motor India with 8,336 units exported during February.
Three-Wheeler Demand and Exports Strengthen
The three-wheeler segment also experienced strong demand growth during February 2026. Domestic sales reached 74,573 units compared with 57,788 units recorded a year earlier, representing approximately 29% growth. Bajaj Auto dominated the segment with domestic sales of 46,417 units and export shipments of 20,709 units during the month.
Mahindra & Mahindra’s three-wheeler sales increased to 9,190 units from 6,395 units, while Piaggio Vehicles recorded domestic sales of 9,798 units compared with 7,576 units in February 2025. TVS Motor Company nearly doubled its domestic three-wheeler sales to 5,569 units from 2,911 units. Export shipments in this segment rose nearly 49% to 38,766 units, led primarily by Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company.
Cumulative FY26 Sales Reflect Industry Momentum
Cumulative data for the April–February period of FY2025–26 indicates sustained growth across the Indian automotive sector. Total domestic vehicle sales during the eleven-month period reached 2,45,51,735 units, representing approximately 9.4% growth compared with 2,24,50,972 units during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. Two-wheelers accounted for the majority of cumulative sales with 1,97,29,846 units, followed by passenger vehicles at 40,61,927 units and three-wheelers at 7,59,958 units.
Cumulative vehicle exports during the same period rose to 60,03,994 units, marking nearly 25% growth from 48,10,153 units recorded in April–February FY2024–25. Overall production across all vehicle segments reached 3,03,51,351 units, compared with 2,73,73,519 units a year earlier.
