Rivian R2 Electric SUV Pricing Revealed with Multiple Variants Through 2027

Rivian has announced Rivian R2 electric SUV pricing alongside detailed specifications for its upcoming midsize electric vehicle lineup. The company confirmed that reservations are open with a USD 100 refundable deposit, while production will begin with the Launch Edition in spring 2026 from its Normal, Illinois manufacturing facility. Additional Premium and Standard configurations will follow in phases through 2027, expanding the brand’s electric SUV portfolio and targeting a wider consumer base.

R2 Launch Edition and Premium Variant Specifications

The first model to reach customers will be the performance-oriented Launch Edition, which represents the top configuration of the lineup. It features a large battery pack and dual-motor all-wheel-drive architecture designed for high performance and extended driving range. Later in 2026, Rivian will introduce the Premium trim that retains dual-motor AWD capability but with slightly reduced output and a more simplified suspension and wheel setup.

Performance and Technology Highlights

The Launch Edition uses an 87.9 kWh battery paired with a dual-motor AWD system producing 656 horsepower and 609 lb-ft of torque. The model features semi-active suspension and includes the Autonomy+ driver assistance package along with a Tow Package supporting up to 4,400 pounds of towing capacity. The Premium trim offers a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds, rides on smaller 20-inch wheels, and removes the semi-active suspension to balance capability with affordability.

Standard Variants and Vehicle Dimensions

Beginning in 2027, Rivian will introduce the Standard version featuring a rear-wheel-drive configuration powered by a single rear-mounted motor producing 350 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque. This variant delivers an estimated range of up to 345 miles using the same battery capacity and accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds. A second Standard variant arriving later will feature a smaller battery with an estimated range exceeding 275 miles and a starting price near USD 45,000. The five-passenger SUV measures 185.9 inches in length with a 115.6-inch wheelbase and offers up to 79.4 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the rear seats folded flat, while also integrating a NACS charging port for expanded fast-charging compatibility.
