Cancellation of Three Planned U.S. Electric Vehicles

On March 12, Honda confirmed that it expects its loss for the fiscal year ending March 2026 to reach as much as JPY 690 billion, driven partly by evolving conditions in the electric vehicle market. As a result, the company will cancel development and market launch plans for three battery-electric vehicles that were scheduled for production in the United States: the Honda 0 SUV, Honda 0 Saloon, and Acura RSX. The decision forms part of Honda’s broader reassessment of its long-term electrification investments.

Impact on Honda’s Ohio EV Hub Manufacturing Network

The program cancellations affect multiple facilities that were originally designated to support EV manufacturing within Honda’s EV Hub in Ohio. The Marysville Auto Plant was expected to assemble the discontinued models, while the East Liberty Auto Plant had been planned as a supporting EV production facility and will still build the Sony Mobility AFEELA vehicle. Additional affected sites include the Georgia Transmission Plant, which was set to manufacture e-axles, the Anna Engine Plant designated for battery housings, and the LH Battery Plant joint venture with LG Energy Solution.

Although Honda has not yet detailed operational adjustments for these facilities, the company stated that updated objectives for its automotive business will be presented during a press conference scheduled for May. The announcement is expected to outline Honda’s revised mid- to long-term product strategy as it balances hybrid technology expansion with carefully staged electric vehicle investments.
