Chinese new energy vehicle manufacturer BYD announced on March 11 that it has formally joined the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), marking a strategic step toward deeper involvement in shaping global automotive standards. The move places the company alongside major international automakers participating in the development of industry-wide quality management frameworks. By becoming part of the IATF network, the automaker strengthens its global engagement as electric mobility technologies continue to transform automotive regulation and manufacturing practices.

Role of IATF in Global Automotive Standards

The International Automotive Task Force was established in 1999 to harmonize quality standards across the global automotive supply chain. The organization includes automotive industry associations such as the United States’ AIAG, Italy’s ANFIA, France’s FIEV, the United Kingdom’s SMMT, and Germany’s VDA, along with several major vehicle manufacturers. Historically, the task force has been dominated by European and American companies that collaborate to create internationally recognized automotive quality management systems used by suppliers and manufacturers worldwide.

BYD Contribution to Future Automotive Regulations

Through its participation, BYD plans to contribute technological insights derived from its work in electrification and intelligent vehicle systems. The company intends to cooperate with IATF members, the International Automotive Oversight Bureau (IAOB), and related organizations to incorporate new energy vehicle innovation and quality management practices into the evolving global standards framework. Following its “Go Global, Grow Local” strategy, the automaker aims to support the modernization and improvement of international automotive regulations as the industry accelerates its transition toward electrified mobility.
