Quick Takeaways
  • Mercedes-Benz introduced a new electric luxury MPV built on an 800V architecture for the Chinese market.
  • The vehicle delivers over 700 km WLTP range and advanced MB.OS-based driver assistance features.

The Mercedes-Benz VLE EV MPV made its global debut on March 11 as the brand introduced a new battery-electric multi-purpose vehicle designed for production in China. Developed to target premium family and executive mobility needs, the model combines large interior capacity with long-range electric capability and advanced digital features. The launch also signals Mercedes-Benz’s continued expansion in China’s premium electric vehicle segment, where demand for luxury MPVs is steadily increasing among both private buyers and corporate fleet operators.

Vehicle Dimensions and Seating Configuration

The VLE EV has been engineered with generous proportions to maximize passenger comfort and interior flexibility. Depending on configuration, the vehicle measures either 5,309 mm or 5,484 mm in length, while width and height are 1,999 mm and 1,943 mm respectively. Two wheelbase options are offered at 3,342 mm and 3,517 mm, enabling a spacious three-row cabin layout. The interior can accommodate up to eight passengers, positioning the model as a premium electric MPV suitable for family travel, executive transport, or luxury ride-hailing applications.

Electric Powertrain and Charging Performance

The Mercedes-Benz VLE EV MPV is built on an advanced 800-volt electrical architecture designed to support high-performance charging and efficient energy management. Power is supplied by a 115 kWh ternary lithium battery pack capable of supporting DC fast charging rates of up to 300 kW. According to WLTP estimates, the vehicle can deliver a driving range exceeding 700 kilometers, while a rapid 15-minute charging session can add approximately 355 kilometers of driving range.

Digital Platform and Driver Assistance Systems

Inside the vehicle, Mercedes-Benz integrates its in-house developed MB.OS operating system to support advanced digital services and driver assistance technologies. The cockpit features a 10.25-inch instrument display, a 14-inch passenger display, and a large 31.3-inch panoramic screen with 8K resolution. The system also introduces an urban and expressway driver assistance package designed to enable door-to-door autopilot and automated parking functions, which will initially be deployed in the Chinese market.

Looking ahead, the automaker plans to further expand its premium electric MPV portfolio with the introduction of the VLS, another luxury model tailored specifically for Chinese customers. Together, these vehicles are expected to strengthen the company’s position in the fast-growing premium electric mobility segment while addressing diverse customer needs across executive transport, family travel, and high-end shared mobility services.
