- Zhongrui Korea has started mass production of components for 4680 cylindrical EV battery cells.
- The company plans potential expansion with a third plant to support expected order growth.
A key development in electric vehicle battery manufacturing has emerged as Zhongrui Korea begins large-scale production of parts for next-generation cylindrical battery cells. The move follows the company’s successful completion of a final quality screening conducted by a major North American electric vehicle manufacturer, clearing the way for supply of critical components used in advanced 4680 cylindrical battery cell technology.
Mass production of next-generation battery components
The newly approved production focuses on components used in 4680 cylindrical battery cells measuring 46mm in diameter and 80mm in height. Zhongrui Korea currently manufactures parts for 2171 batteries, sized at 21mm by 70mm, at its No. 1 facility, while production of the larger 4680 format takes place at the company’s No. 2 plant. With expectations of increased orders from electric vehicle manufacturers, the company is also evaluating the possibility of establishing a third production facility to expand its manufacturing capacity.
Joint venture structure supporting manufacturing
Zhongrui Korea operates as a joint venture with a cross-border ownership structure combining expertise in battery components and automation systems. The company is owned 70 percent by Zhongrui, a Chinese manufacturer specializing in cylindrical battery parts, while the remaining 30 percent stake is held by KNS, a South Korean producer of automation equipment used in industrial manufacturing.
