- Subaru plans to deploy 150 kW rapid chargers at 50 dealerships across Japan by FY2027.
- The company is training BEV Life Designers to improve customer understanding and confidence in EV ownership.
The Subaru electric vehicle charging strategy is evolving as the automaker prepares for the domestic launch of its upcoming battery electric vehicles in Japan. The company is strengthening its dealership ecosystem with charging infrastructure, staff training programs, and customer support initiatives designed to improve the EV ownership experience. These preparations aim to address consumer concerns about charging accessibility and daily usability while positioning Subaru dealerships as central hubs for EV guidance, support, and charging services.
Dealership Rapid Charger Deployment Plan
As part of the Subaru electric vehicle charging strategy, the automaker plans to install 50 units of 150-kilowatt rapid chargers at Subaru dealerships throughout Japan. The deployment will be completed by the fiscal year beginning in April 2027 (FY2027). By expanding high-power charging availability at retail locations, Subaru aims to create a more supportive environment for EV buyers while strengthening its dealer network’s role in the transition toward electrified mobility. The chargers will also support Subaru vehicle owners visiting dealerships for service, consultations, or charging needs.
Training BEV Life Designers to Support Customers
Alongside infrastructure expansion, Subaru is developing specialized sales personnel known as BEV Life Designers (BLDs). These staff members receive EV-focused training and are given electric vehicles for six months to gain real-world ownership experience. In FY2025, Subaru selected 100 employees from sales companies across Japan as the first group of BLDs. The program is intended to place trained EV specialists at nearly all Subaru dealerships by the end of FY2026, enabling staff to explain charging behavior, daily usage patterns, and ownership benefits from firsthand experience.
Subaru also plans to introduce an EV charging discount service at its dealerships for Subaru vehicle owners. Through initiatives such as employee training, real-world EV experience programs, and expanded rapid-charging infrastructure, the company seeks to reduce uncertainty around electric mobility and encourage a broader shift toward EV adoption among customers in Japan.
