Zoox Uber Robotaxi Partnership to Launch Autonomous Ride-Hailing in Las Vegas

The Zoox Uber robotaxi partnership marks a major step toward expanding autonomous ride-hailing services in the United States. Announced on March 11, the collaboration will allow riders using the Uber platform to be matched with Zoox purpose-built autonomous robotaxis on eligible trips. The initiative represents the first time Zoox has partnered with a third-party mobility platform, broadening access to its autonomous transportation technology while maintaining its own ride-hailing service.

Robotaxi Deployment Planned for Major US Cities

The first phase of the partnership will begin in Las Vegas during the summer, where Uber riders will gain access to Zoox robotaxis through the Uber app. A second launch is scheduled for Los Angeles by mid-2027. Zoox will continue operating its own ride service simultaneously through the Zoox application, meaning riders will have multiple options to access autonomous vehicles in both cities as the network gradually expands.

Purpose-Built Robotaxi Design for Ride-Hailing

Unlike many autonomous mobility programs that modify conventional passenger vehicles, Zoox robotaxis are engineered specifically for ride-hailing operations. The vehicle design focuses on passenger comfort, interior space, and social interaction, allowing riders to face one another during trips. According to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the vehicle was developed from the ground up to deliver a unique mobility experience tailored for shared transportation and future autonomous urban travel.

Zoox operates as an independent subsidiary of Amazon and is headquartered in Foster City, California. Through the new collaboration with Uber, the company aims to scale its autonomous technology by combining purpose-built vehicles with one of the world’s largest ride-hailing platforms, potentially accelerating the adoption of robotaxi services across major urban markets.
