The Mercedes-Benz CLA electric sedan India will arrive with two variants — the CLA 200 “Standard Range” and the CLA 250+ “Long Range.” The decision to introduce a second configuration was shaped by customer feedback indicating interest in a lower entry price while still maintaining sufficient range for urban and intercity driving. Bookings for both versions are now open, with deliveries scheduled to begin during the second quarter of 2026.
Pricing and Variant Positioning
The CLA 200 “Standard Range” carries a tentative ex-showroom price of Rs. 55 lakhs, while the CLA 250+ “Long Range” is expected to retail at Rs. 59 lakhs. The manufacturer has indicated that final pricing may change depending on prevailing foreign exchange rates when the official launch takes place in mid-April 2026. Customers can reserve either version with a booking amount of Rs. 1.5 lakhs.
The two variants have been introduced to widen the brand’s presence within the premium electric sedan segment. By offering two configurations from the outset, Mercedes-Benz is attempting to capture a broader range of buyers who may prioritize either price accessibility or extended driving range.
Driving Range and Charging Architecture
The Standard Range variant delivers a WLTP-certified range of 542 km, while the Long Range version extends this figure to 792 km. The difference reflects the battery capacity and electrical architecture employed in the higher-end model.
High-Voltage Charging Capability
The Long Range configuration utilizes an 800V electrical system designed for ultra-fast charging. When connected to a 240 kW DC fast charger, the vehicle can add approximately 400 km of range in about 20 minutes. In comparison, the Standard Range model supports DC charging speeds up to 200 kW, enabling it to recover around 320 km in the same timeframe using the same charging infrastructure.
Both charging figures represent a substantial improvement compared with typical charging performance seen in many vehicles currently available in the premium electric segment.
Interior Features and Design Differences
Despite the differences in battery range and charging architecture, equipment levels remain identical across both configurations. This approach aligns with the company’s strategy in the Indian market to provide high product substance as standard rather than reserving key features for higher trims.
Exterior Styling Themes
The Standard Range version adopts the Progressive Line styling package, which includes comfort seats, a multifunction sports leather steering wheel, and multiple trim choices. In contrast, the Long Range variant receives the AMG Line treatment, which typically incorporates sportier visual design elements and a more dynamic exterior appearance.
Charging Ecosystem and Home Charging Options
To address charging convenience, the manufacturer highlights its MB.CHARGE Public network, which currently includes more than 9,000 charging points across India. Integrated route planning through the MBUX Virtual Assistant helps drivers identify charging stops and optimise long-distance travel.
The infotainment system can suggest charging intervals automatically, which becomes particularly useful during extended journeys where drivers may need to recharge before reaching their destination.
Customers also have the option to install a dedicated wall box charger at home through authorized franchise partners. The unit costs Rs. 50,000 including installation and supports charging speeds of up to 22 kW. It integrates with the Mercedes me application, allowing owners to remotely monitor and schedule charging sessions.
Buyers who place pre-bookings before the official launch will receive the wall box as a complimentary offering, eliminating an additional upfront cost typically associated with home charging equipment.
Launch Timeline and Market Context
Deliveries of the CLA 250+ Long Range are scheduled to begin by the end of April 2026, while the Standard Range version will follow in June 2026. The staggered rollout suggests the longer-range configuration is further along in import preparation and supply readiness.
The introduction of the new electric sedan comes at a time when interest in luxury battery-powered vehicles is gradually rising in India. Although overall battery electric vehicle adoption remains at an early stage in the broader market, demand within the premium segment has been expanding steadily.
The manufacturer already sells multiple electric models in India, including the EQS sedan, EQS SUV, EQA, EQB, and EQE. It is also among the few luxury brands assembling electric vehicles locally through its production facility located on a 100-acre site in Chakan near Pune.
With two configurations offered from launch, the new CLA represents a strategic effort to broaden the appeal of the brand’s latest electric architecture while positioning the model competitively within the growing premium EV segment in India.
