- Geely Galaxy has teased a rugged off-road SUV with AI-powered drivetrain and advanced control technologies.
- The vehicle is expected to launch first in China and compete with premium hardcore SUVs.
The Geely Galaxy hardcore SUV has been teased as the first rugged off-road vehicle under Geely Auto’s new energy vehicle brand. Designed to compete in the rapidly expanding premium off-road segment, the upcoming model combines advanced control technologies, artificial intelligence, and autonomous driving features to enhance capability in extreme conditions.
The company has initiated a global naming campaign for the vehicle, indicating that the final production name has not yet been confirmed. Early development images released during winter testing previously referred to the vehicle as the Geely Galaxy Cruiser.
The concept version of the SUV was revealed during the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2025, showcasing a distinctive boxy design language aimed at serious off-road performance.
Advanced Off-Road Engineering and Control Systems
The upcoming model integrates Geely’s proprietary GVMC dynamic control system, developed to improve vehicle stability and terrain response. According to the company, the system enables a moose test performance of approximately 80 km/h and allows the vehicle to handle water crossings with a maximum wading depth of 800 mm.
Additional technologies include flat-tire driving capability and an active suspension system designed to maintain vehicle stability over challenging surfaces.
AI-Powered Drivetrain and Terrain Adaptation
The SUV is expected to feature an AI-enabled four-wheel-drive architecture capable of automatically switching between front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive modes depending on terrain conditions. This adaptive system aims to optimize traction, efficiency, and stability without driver intervention.
Further enhancements include a specialized crab-walk mode to improve maneuverability in tight off-road situations.
ADAS Integration and Autonomous Driving Capability
A roof-mounted LiDAR unit indicates that the vehicle will support advanced driver assistance systems designed for both safety and semi-autonomous driving functions. These systems are expected to enable complex point-to-point urban driving assistance as well as obstacle avoidance features.
The rugged SUV is planned for its initial market launch in China, with deliveries expected to begin by the end of the year. As part of the expanding electrified portfolio from Geely, the model highlights the brand’s strategy to combine electrification, AI-driven vehicle control, and autonomous technologies in the off-road vehicle segment.
