Quick Takeaways
  • Mexico produced 311,457 light vehicles in February 2026, down 1.8% year-on-year.
  • Production trends varied widely across automakers due to market shifts and operational adjustments.

Mexico light vehicle production February 2026 totaled 311,457 units, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). This represents a 1.8% decline compared with the 317,178 vehicles produced in February 2025. Despite the overall drop, several manufacturers recorded notable increases in vehicle output across their Mexican facilities.

Automakers Recording Production Growth

Multiple manufacturers reported strong manufacturing gains during the month. Audi posted the most significant growth, with output rising 132.3% to 11,764 units. Volkswagen increased production by 45.1% to 30,032 vehicles, while Chrysler expanded output by 29.4% to 40,865 units.

Additional growth was reported by Kia, which produced 24,100 vehicles, representing a 12.0% increase. Mercedes-Benz recorded a 7.1% rise to 4,912 units, General Motors increased output by 4.6% to 68,079 units, and Toyota achieved a 1.7% increase with 25,086 units produced.

Manufacturers Facing Production Declines

Several automakers experienced notable declines in February manufacturing activity. BMW Group reported the steepest drop, with production falling 83.9% to 1,431 units. Nissan also saw a significant reduction, with output declining 32.7% to 40,214 vehicles.

Acura production decreased by 31.5% to 2,195 units, while Mazda output declined 25.7% to 13,460 units. JAC experienced a 15.2% drop to 1,766 vehicles, Honda production fell 9.2% to 16,045 units, and Ford reported an 8.1% decrease to 31,508 units.

Factors Behind BMW Production Adjustment

The sharp reduction in BMW production has been linked to U.S. tariff pressures and evolving export conditions. In 2025, roughly 42% of the plant’s output was shipped to the United States, making the facility sensitive to policy changes affecting cross-border automotive trade.

Additionally, the plant is undergoing specialized upgrades to prepare for the launch of the Neue Klasse vehicle platform, which is scheduled to enter production in 2027. These operational adjustments contributed to the broader shift observed in Mexico light vehicle production February 2026.
