Vietnam Investment to Expand Battery Material Production
The Posco Future M artificial graphite anode plant represents a major expansion of battery material manufacturing in Southeast Asia. Posco Future M Co., Ltd. announced plans to invest KRW 357 billion (JPY 39.27 billion) to build a new production facility in Thai Nguyen, northern Vietnam. Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2026, while mass production is targeted for 2028.
Production Capacity and Expansion Strategy
The Vietnam facility will be developed on a site capable of supporting up to 55,000 tons of artificial graphite anode material production annually. Capacity expansion will occur in phases depending on additional customer demand and supply agreements.
Leveraging Existing Manufacturing Expertise
Posco Future M currently operates an artificial graphite anode material plant in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea, with an annual capacity of approximately 8,000 tons. Operational experience from the Pohang facility will support efficient production scaling and cost competitiveness at the Vietnam site. By expanding manufacturing beyond South Korea, the company aims to strengthen supply stability and improve responsiveness to global battery manufacturers.
