The Omoda | Jaecoo brand introduced the Jaecoo J5 Malaysia as a compact premium crossover positioned in the B-segment and marketed as an “Urban Explorer.” Announced on March 5, 2026, the model expands the company’s presence in Southeast Asia’s growing crossover segment. In the Malaysian market, the front-wheel-drive variant starts at RM108,000 and targets urban buyers seeking premium styling, efficiency, and advanced safety features.
Turbocharged Powertrain and Efficiency
The crossover is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 108 kW (147 PS) and 210 Nm of torque. Engineering highlights include intake-integrated intercooling and an integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head designed to improve thermal efficiency and performance.
Transmission and Fuel Economy
Power is transmitted through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that drives the front wheels. The vehicle records fuel consumption of 6.4 L/100 km under the Malaysia Driving Cycle (MDC), enabling qualification for Malaysia’s Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) certification program.
