- Hyundai updates Verna with ADAS Level 2, seven airbags and dual 10.25-inch displays.
- New styling, turbo petrol engine options and connected features target premium sedan buyers.
The Hyundai Motor India Verna sedan has been launched with significant updates across design, safety, cabin technology and powertrain options. Introduced in Gurugram with a starting price of ₹10,98,400 (ex-showroom), the latest update represents a strategic move by Hyundai Motor India Limited to strengthen its presence in the shrinking but still competitive mid-size sedan market. The refreshed model brings more than 25 feature updates aimed at improving safety, driving experience and premium appeal for urban buyers.
Since its introduction in India in 2006, the Verna has consistently been one of the most recognizable models in the country’s sedan segment. The latest iteration attempts to reinforce its relevance by integrating advanced driver assistance systems, upgraded infotainment capabilities and refined cabin features. With SUVs dominating recent market trends, Hyundai Motor India Limited continues to position the sedan as a refined alternative for customers seeking comfort, performance and technology.
Exterior Design and Platform Dimensions
The updated Verna introduces multiple styling revisions that enhance its visual presence. The front fascia features a black chrome radiator grille paired with dual LED projector headlamps and redesigned bumpers at the front and rear. New R16 diamond-cut alloy wheels complement the refreshed exterior profile, while two additional colour options — Classy Blue and Titan Grey Matte — expand the available palette to six monotone colours and one dual-tone variant.
Dimensionally, the model maintains its strong platform characteristics within the segment. The sedan continues to offer a wheelbase of 2,670 mm, an overall length of 4,565 mm and a body width of 1,765 mm. These measurements are designed to provide improved cabin space and shoulder room, reinforcing the vehicle’s positioning as a comfortable long-distance cruiser.
Safety Architecture and ADAS Technology
Safety is a major focus area in the latest update. The vehicle now integrates Hyundai’s SmartSense Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System, combining approximately 20 driver-assistance functions. Key technologies include forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning and driver attention monitoring.
The sedan also introduces seven airbags on select variants, covering driver, passenger, side, curtain and centre-side protection zones. This safety package is complemented by a wide list of standard safety systems available across all variants.
Standard Safety Equipment
The vehicle includes 35 safety features as standard equipment across the lineup.
- Six airbags
- Anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution
- Electronic stability control with vehicle stability management
- Hill-start assist
- Front disc brakes
- ISOFIX child seat mounts
- Rear parking sensors
Higher variants additionally feature four-wheel disc brakes, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold functionality and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Additional driver-assistance elements include a blind-spot view monitor, integrated dashcam and rain-sensing wipers.
Cabin Technology and Comfort Features
The interior receives several upgrades aimed at improving ergonomics and digital functionality. A redesigned instrument panel, leatherette seat upholstery and a D-cut steering wheel create a more contemporary cabin environment.
The driver’s seat features eight-way electric adjustment along with memory settings and a welcome retract mechanism that automatically moves the seat backward when the driver exits. The front passenger seat offers four-way electric adjustment along with an electric walk-in function designed to simplify rear passenger entry.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The cabin technology is anchored by dual integrated 10.25-inch displays that combine the digital instrument cluster and infotainment interface. This configuration represents one of the largest screen setups currently offered in the mid-size sedan segment.
The infotainment platform operates on Hyundai’s Bluelink connected-car ecosystem, which now supports more than 70 connected features. Functions include remote lamp control, remote hazard light activation, vehicle location tracking and surround-view monitor assistance for locating the car. The system also supports wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay compatibility, a wireless smartphone charger and voice command capability exceeding 350 voice instructions.
Additional comfort features include ambient lighting integrated into the dashboard and door panels, rear air-conditioning vents with Type-C charging ports, adjustable headrests for all seats and a sliding armrest with integrated storage. The sedan also offers a powered smart boot with a cargo capacity of 528 litres.
Powertrain Options and Driving Dynamics
The sedan continues to offer two petrol engine configurations designed to meet both efficiency and performance requirements. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated MPi engine serves as the standard powertrain option and is available with either a six-speed manual transmission or an Intelligent Variable Transmission.
The higher-performance option is the 1.5-litre turbocharged GDi engine producing 160 PS at 5,500 rpm and 253 Nm of torque between 1,500 and 3,500 rpm. This engine can be paired with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Driving dynamics are enhanced through selectable drive modes — Normal, Eco and Sport — along with paddle shifters on dual-clutch variants. An idle stop-and-go system further improves fuel efficiency during city driving conditions.
Variants, Pricing and Market Position
The sedan is available in six variants: HX2, HX4, HX6, HX6+, HX8 and HX10. Pricing begins at ₹10,98,400 for the entry-level MPi manual variant and extends to ₹18,25,400 for the turbocharged DCT version.
The MPi manual variants range between ₹10,98,400 and ₹14,88,400, while IVT variants are priced between ₹14,40,400 and ₹17,15,400. Turbocharged manual variants are priced at ₹16,28,400, while the turbo DCT models range from ₹17,62,400 to ₹18,25,400.
The sedan competes directly with established models such as the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Skoda Slavia. Despite declining volumes in the mid-size sedan segment due to the rapid expansion of compact and mid-size SUVs, Hyundai Motor India Limited appears committed to retaining a strong presence in this category by emphasizing safety technology, premium features and driving performance.
The latest update signals the manufacturer’s continued belief that a segment of buyers will still value the refined driving dynamics, comfort and design offered by a modern sedan.
