Quick Takeaways
  • Ultraviolette introduces a battery subscription model that reduces the upfront price of its X-47 electric motorcycle.
  • The Battery-as-a-Service model allows riders to finance the battery separately while retaining ownership after the subscription period.

The Ultraviolette Battery Flex financing scheme was launched on March 5, 2026, allowing customers to purchase the X-47 Crossover electric motorcycle with a significantly lower upfront cost. The programme enables riders to buy the motorcycle chassis starting at ₹1,49,000, compared with the full price of around ₹2.5 lakh, while the battery pack is paid for separately through a monthly subscription beginning at ₹2,499.

The initiative is structured as a Battery-as-a-Service model designed to reduce the initial purchase barrier for electric vehicles. By separating the battery cost from the motorcycle itself, buyers gain access to advanced electric mobility technology without the higher upfront investment traditionally associated with EV batteries.

Battery-as-a-Service Financing Structure

The programme has been developed by Ultraviolette in collaboration with financing partner Ecofy, a non-banking financial company focused on green lending. Under this model, customers purchase the vehicle platform and finance the battery pack through a subscription plan.

Once the subscription tenure is completed, ownership of the battery transfers to the customer at no additional cost. The battery pack included in the programme also comes with a five-year warranty, ensuring long-term reliability and performance for riders adopting the new financing approach.

Improving Price Accessibility for Electric Motorcycles

Narayan Subramaniam, CEO and Co-founder of Ultraviolette, said the pricing revision positions the electric motorcycle competitively against similarly powered internal combustion engine motorcycles. According to the company, the lower starting price brings the X-47 closer to mainstream two-wheeler affordability.

He added that the monthly battery subscription is designed to remain lower than the typical fuel expenditure for petrol motorcycles, potentially improving the total cost of ownership for daily riders.

Battery Technology and Development Focus

Niraj Rajmohan, CTO and Co-founder, noted that the company’s battery development work plays a central role in the vehicle’s performance. The battery systems powering the motorcycle have been developed through extensive research and development focused on safety, performance stability, and operational lifespan.

The company believes delivering battery technology through a subscription framework enables wider access to these advanced systems while maintaining reliability standards expected from premium electric motorcycles.

Growing Adoption of Battery Subscription Models

Battery-as-a-Service structures are increasingly gaining attention within India’s electric two-wheeler sector. Since battery packs represent a large portion of an EV’s cost, separating the battery purchase from the vehicle allows manufacturers to lower entry prices while maintaining advanced battery technology.

Ultraviolette, founded in 2016, has attracted investment from several global and domestic backers including Lingotto, Qualcomm Ventures, Zoho Corporation, TVS Motor, TDK Ventures, and Speciale Invest. The X-47 Crossover currently represents the company’s production electric motorcycle offering.

Ecofy, the programme’s financing partner, provides green loans for electric two- and three-wheelers, rooftop solar installations, and small businesses, while offering a fully digital application process for customers seeking financing solutions.
