The automaker confirmed that most versions of the aerodynamic EV will be phased out in the United States, leaving only the upcoming high-performance Ioniq 6 N in the lineup.
Shift Toward a Performance-Focused Variant
Hyundai stated that its award-winning electric sedan family will transition to a single offering built around performance. The company emphasized that the all-new Ioniq 6 N will deliver track-ready driving dynamics while maintaining practicality for everyday use.
The automaker described the upcoming model as a high-performance electric sports sedan engineered to provide stronger acceleration and a more engaging driving experience than the standard versions previously offered.
Power and Performance Targets
The performance-oriented version is expected to produce around 641 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, positioning it as a premium electric sports sedan. Hyundai believes these figures and the vehicle’s dynamic tuning will help attract buyers seeking both performance and EV efficiency.
Weak Sales Influenced Strategy
Sales performance appears to have contributed to the decision. In February, fewer than 300 units of the standard Ioniq 6 were sold in the United States. Industry observers note that the model’s unconventional aerodynamic design may have limited its broader appeal despite strong efficiency and technology credentials.
Remaining 2025 model-year sedans will still be available through dealerships while inventory lasts, alongside Hyundai’s domestically produced Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 electric SUVs.
Canada to Receive Refreshed Version
While the United States market is undergoing the Hyundai Ioniq 6 U.S. discontinuation transition, the model’s future remains intact in Canada. The company confirmed that a refreshed version of the electric sedan is scheduled to arrive there as a 2027 model-year vehicle.
Hyundai indicated that additional details about the updated Canadian model will be shared closer to its launch, signaling that the vehicle still plays a role in the company’s broader global EV strategy.
