Quick Takeaways
  • Scout Motors plans prototype builds by 2026 with full production targeted by late 2027.
  • Customer deliveries of the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup are scheduled to begin in 2028.

The Scout Motors production timeline is progressing according to the roadmap outlined by the company, as executives shared updates on factory construction, vehicle development, and customer reservations. Speaking at the Scout Motors Innovation Center in Novi, Michigan on March 4, CEO Scott Keogh confirmed that the company remains aligned with its previously communicated launch schedule for its upcoming vehicles.

Keogh explained that when the concept vehicles were introduced, the company indicated that production models would reach the assembly line in 2027, followed by customer deliveries shortly afterward. The company continues to pursue that schedule while simultaneously building the organization, production facility, and vehicle lineup.

Manufacturing Facility Development in South Carolina

The production facility in Blythewood, South Carolina is steadily taking shape. Portions of the assembly equipment have already been installed while additional equipment is scheduled to arrive as construction progresses.

Meanwhile, the company’s new headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina will begin gradually expanding its workforce later this year as operational activities ramp up.

Prototype Builds and Production Phases

The current plan calls for prototype vehicles to begin assembly before the end of 2026. These early builds represent the first of four planned phases leading toward full-scale series production expected by late 2027.

Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028, consistent with the company’s original rollout strategy.

Factory-Based Prototype Development

Unlike many automakers that build prototypes on separate pilot lines or through external engineering partners, Scout Motors is producing early vehicles directly within its South Carolina facility. Around 20 or more prototypes are expected to be assembled during the initial phase.

This approach allows the company to validate manufacturing processes early while also preparing the workforce for future mass production.

Vehicle Mix and Customer Reservation Trends

Development efforts are currently prioritizing the EREV Harvester variants, which have emerged as the preferred option among reservation holders. Approximately 87% of the roughly 160,000 potential customers who placed reservations selected the extended-range electric configuration.

Reservation data also reveals clear preferences in vehicle body styles:

  • Traveler SUV: approximately 70%–75% of reservations
  • Terra pickup: approximately 25%–30% of reservations

The SUV is therefore expected to lead the initial launch sequence, followed by the pickup model.

Direct Sales Model and AI-Driven Operations

The company intends to maintain a direct-to-consumer sales model while also operating physical showrooms where customers can view vehicles before purchase.

Reservation data will guide decisions regarding showroom locations as well as supplier component planning for production volumes.

The broader operational framework will integrate multiple business functions into a connected digital ecosystem. Manufacturing, supplier coordination, customer interaction, and service management will all rely on data-driven systems supported by artificial intelligence.

Future Product Expansion Possibilities

Looking ahead, company leadership indicated that additional vehicle derivatives could expand the lineup above the initial Traveler and Terra models. A smaller model positioned below the current vehicles is also being considered.

The brand may eventually explore commercial applications and fleet opportunities as well, particularly once production capacity stabilizes.

The Blythewood plant has an annual production capacity of approximately 200,000 vehicles, and operating the facility at optimal levels across three shifts will be a key objective as the company scales manufacturing operations in the coming years.
