The BMW Manufacturing automotive exports milestone positioned the company as the leading automotive exporter by value in the United States during 2025. According to data released by the U.S. Department of Commerce, BMW’s Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina exported nearly 200,000 BMW X models during the year, representing a total export value of approximately USD 9 billion.

Plant Spartanburg export performance

The large-scale production hub has become a central pillar in the global manufacturing footprint of BMW Group. Between 2014 and 2025, the facility exported close to 3 million vehicles with a cumulative export value reaching around USD 113 billion. This consistent export performance highlights the strategic importance of the plant in supplying global markets.

Production scale and vehicle portfolio

BMW Manufacturing assembles a wide range of high-demand Sports Activity Vehicles and Sports Activity Coupes at the Spartanburg facility. Models produced include the BMW X3, X5, X5 M, X7, and XM, along with the BMW X6 and X6 M. In 2025 alone, the plant produced 412,799 BMW X vehicles, marking the third-highest production total in its 32-year history and the seventh time annual output exceeded 400,000 units.

Global supply reach

With production exceeding 1,500 vehicles per day, roughly half of the vehicles built at the South Carolina site are exported to nearly 120 international markets. The plant therefore plays a vital role in global vehicle distribution while reinforcing BMW Manufacturing automotive exports as a key contributor to the U.S. automotive trade balance.

Investment and economic impact

Since 1992, BMW Group has invested nearly USD 16 billion in its South Carolina operations. Today, the facility stands as the largest BMW production plant worldwide. It has an annual manufacturing capacity of approximately 450,000 vehicles and supports more than 12,000 jobs on site.

More than 52 percent of BMW vehicles sold in the United States in 2025 were produced at the Spartanburg plant, reinforcing its importance in both domestic supply and global export operations.
