MOIA autonomous ID Buzz production begins pre-series at Hanover plant

The MOIA autonomous ID Buzz production program officially entered its pre-series phase on March 4 at the Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge manufacturing facility in Hanover, Germany. The self-driving vehicles initially pass through the same assembly stages as standard ID. Buzz models before specialized autonomous components are integrated.

Autonomous Hardware Integration

After the base vehicle assembly is completed, engineers install a dedicated roof module equipped with cameras, radar sensors, and LiDAR units. A high-performance onboard computer is also integrated and calibrated to support advanced automated driving functions required for future mobility services.

Multi-Company Collaboration

The project combines manufacturing expertise with advanced autonomy technologies. Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge provides industrial-scale vehicle production capabilities, while Mobileye supplies the autonomous driving technology stack. MOIA integrates the system into a complete mobility solution designed for scalable autonomous transport services.

Planned Deployment Strategy

Vehicles produced during the pre-series phase will support multiple pilot projects planned across Europe and the United States. These programs aim to validate operational performance and readiness for commercial autonomous ride services.

Production Expansion Timeline

Over the course of the year, the MOIA autonomous ID Buzz production program is expected to ramp up to approximately 500 vehicles. Series approval is currently targeted for 2027, which would enable full industrial production and broader commercial deployment of autonomous mobility solutions.
