Toyo Tire New Mother Plant to Expand Truck and Bus Tire Production for North America

Toyo Tire has announced plans for the Toyo Tire new mother plant as part of its strategic investment program outlined in the company’s five-year medium-term management plan running through 2030. The initiative focuses on strengthening global manufacturing capabilities while addressing rising demand for commercial vehicle tires in North America.

Strategic Manufacturing Expansion

The company intends to construct two major facilities, including a new mother plant designed to produce multiple tire categories as well as a dedicated truck and bus tire manufacturing plant. These developments are aimed at improving production flexibility and increasing output capacity for global markets.

Focus on North American Market Demand

North America remains the largest demand region for heavy-duty tires within the company’s portfolio. Currently, supply to the United States largely relies on exports from Japan, which has created capacity limitations as regional demand continues to grow.

Potential Plant Locations

Several candidate sites are under evaluation for the truck and bus tire facility. Potential locations include the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The final decision will depend on multiple factors, including evolving U.S. trade policy and supply chain considerations.

Current Production Footprint

At present, commercial vehicle tire production is handled primarily at the Kuwana Plant in Mie Prefecture, Japan, and the Zhucheng manufacturing facility in China. These plants support international demand but face constraints when serving high-growth regions such as North America.

Capacity Increase and Future Production

Once operational, the new generation plant is expected to increase production capacity for truck and bus tires destined for the U.S. market by approximately 1.5 times compared with projected 2025 levels. In addition, the planned mother facility will manufacture various tire categories, including products designed for passenger vehicles, strengthening the company’s global production network.

This expansion strategy reflects Toyo Tire’s broader effort to reinforce supply reliability, scale production efficiently, and better serve key international markets experiencing sustained demand growth.
