Quick Takeaways
  • The new SUV introduces iCar’s first extended-range hybrid powertrain with up to 1,200 km combined range.
  • Advanced driver assistance is powered by Horizon SuperDrive with 27 sensors and a high-performance AI chip.

Chery is expanding its new energy vehicle portfolio with the upcoming launch of the Chery iCar V27, a rugged family-oriented SUV scheduled to debut on March 13. The model represents the largest flagship vehicle under the iCar sub-brand and introduces the brand’s first extended-range hybrid system, combining electric driving capability with long-distance usability.

The SUV continues the brand’s signature boxy off-road styling while targeting young, lifestyle-focused buyers in China’s growing NEV market. Pre-orders for the vehicle opened earlier, and the first mass-production unit rolled off the assembly line in mid-January.

Largest Model in the iCar Lineup

The new SUV significantly expands the size and capability of the iCar family. Measuring 4,909 mm in length, 1,976 mm in width, and between 1,855 mm and 1,894 mm in height, it offers a wheelbase of 2,910 mm designed to provide improved cabin space and road presence.

This positioning makes it considerably larger than earlier models such as the V23 and V23S. Designed as a large five-seat vehicle, the SUV blends rugged design with practicality for everyday driving and outdoor activities.

Advanced Smart Driving Capabilities

The vehicle places strong emphasis on intelligent driving technology. The top-tier version integrates Horizon Robotics’ Horizon SuperDrive system powered by the Journey 6P chip, delivering computing performance of 560 TOPS.

Sensor-Rich Autonomous Architecture

The system integrates a total of 27 sensors, including a LiDAR unit, enabling an end-to-end AI architecture designed to support map-free urban navigation on autopilot. This configuration aims to enhance autonomous driving functions and situational awareness in complex urban environments.

Extended-Range Hybrid Powertrain

The SUV is equipped with an extended-range hybrid setup combining a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with electric motors. The four-wheel-drive variant is expected to produce up to 335 kW of maximum output.

The electrified system allows a pure electric driving range of approximately 200 kilometers, while the total driving range can reach up to 1,200 kilometers when the range extender is utilized. This configuration addresses consumer demand for electric performance while maintaining the flexibility of long-distance travel.

Extended-range electric vehicle architectures are gaining momentum in China as they bridge the gap between battery-electric mobility and conventional combustion-powered vehicles, offering both efficiency and range convenience for everyday users.
