- BYD will unveil its next-generation blade battery and flash charging system during a technology event in Shenzhen.
- The new battery will debut in the Yangwang U7 sedan and aims to combine high power, long range, and ultra-fast charging.
BYD is preparing to unveil its latest battery innovation as the BYD second-generation blade battery is scheduled for an official debut on March 5 in Shenzhen. The announcement will be made during a dedicated technology event where the company will also introduce its new flash charging system designed for next-generation electric vehicles.
The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer revealed the upcoming launch through a social media teaser, signaling that the new technology aims to push the boundaries of EV charging performance and battery efficiency. The announcement arrives during a challenging period for the company, following several months of declining new energy vehicle sales.
Next-generation battery to debut in Yangwang flagship sedan
The first production vehicle to adopt the new battery platform will be the 2026 Yangwang U7, a premium electric sedan developed under BYD’s ultra-luxury sub-brand. The vehicle will integrate a large 150-kWh battery pack designed to deliver exceptional driving range and performance.
According to specifications released by the brand, the sedan can achieve a maximum pure-electric driving range of approximately 1,006 kilometers on a single charge. The model is positioned as a flagship EV capable of delivering strong performance without compromising range or charging convenience.
Balancing performance, range, and charging speed
Executives from Yangwang highlighted that the battery system aims to overcome what the industry often calls the “impossible triangle” of electric vehicles: achieving high horsepower, long driving range, and rapid charging simultaneously. By combining improved battery architecture with advanced charging capability, the new technology seeks to deliver balanced performance for premium electric vehicles.
Megawatt flash charging infrastructure under development
In parallel with the battery launch, the company is also expanding its fast-charging infrastructure. Reports indicate that BYD is developing a second-generation megawatt-level charging system capable of delivering up to 2,100 kW of output.
The new charging stations feature a distinctive cyan exterior and a T-shaped structural design. These facilities are expected to support ultra-fast energy replenishment, enabling significantly shorter charging times compared with conventional EV charging networks.
Earlier in 2025, the automaker introduced a flash-charging battery system capable of adding roughly 400 kilometers of driving range in just five minutes. The upcoming BYD second-generation blade battery is expected to build upon these capabilities, further strengthening the company’s fast-charging ecosystem.
Multiple premium EV launches planned
The technology event will also serve as a platform for several new vehicle unveilings. Alongside the Yangwang U7 sedan, the company is expected to introduce the 2026 Yangwang U8 and U8L models.
Additional debuts may include the Datang flagship sport utility vehicle from the Dynasty lineup and an updated Z9GT from the Denza brand. These launches highlight the manufacturer’s strategy of combining premium vehicle development with advanced battery and charging technologies to strengthen its position in the electric mobility market.
Through these innovations, the automaker aims to stimulate demand and reinforce its technological leadership in the rapidly evolving global EV sector.
