Tata Motors has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, to deploy Tata Motors green hydrogen trucks as part of a major port decarbonisation initiative. The agreement was formalised in the presence of Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal. This deployment marks a structured move toward hydrogen-based freight mobility and positions Tata Motors green hydrogen trucks at the centre of India’s emerging clean commercial transport ecosystem.

Phased Deployment of Tata Motors Green Hydrogen Trucks

Under the MoU, trials will begin with a hydrogen-powered prime mover before scaling to a full fleet of 40 H2 ICE prime movers over the next two years. The phased rollout ensures operational validation under real cargo handling conditions at the port. Funding support for the initiative is being provided by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, reinforcing policy-level backing for Tata Motors green hydrogen trucks in commercial freight applications.

Trial Phase and Fleet Expansion

Hydrogen Infrastructure Development at VOCPA

Its alternative fuel portfolio spans battery electric, CNG, LNG, hydrogen ICE, and hydrogen fuel cell technologies across commercial vehicle segments, reinforcing the strategic importance of Tata Motors green hydrogen trucks in India’s clean mobility transition.
