Renault Group Takes Full Ownership of Flexis to Accelerate Electric Light Commercial Vehicles

Renault Group has taken a decisive step to strengthen its strategy in electric light commercial vehicles by acquiring full ownership of Flexis. The move follows an agreement in which Renault Group will purchase the remaining stakes held by Volvo Group and CMA CGM Group. This transition allows Renault Group to fully steer the development, production, and commercialization of its next generation electric light commercial vehicles platform, while maintaining continuity in its original industrial roadmap.

Renault Group Strengthens Its Electric Light Commercial Vehicles Strategy

The acquisition enables Renault Group to consolidate control over Flexis and streamline decision-making for its electric light commercial vehicles program. Renault Group is buying the 45% stake previously held by Volvo Group and the 10% stake owned by CMA CGM Group. This restructuring ensures that Renault Group can independently lead investments, technology integration, and product rollout.

Ownership Transition and Strategic Alignment

The revised structure does not alter the original product vision. The industrial strategy remains focused on delivering advanced electric light commercial vehicles tailored to evolving urban and logistics needs. Volvo Group will continue as a partner, and Renault Trucks is expected to begin sales activities from 2027, ensuring commercial continuity.

Advanced Platform for Next-Generation Electric Light Commercial Vehicles

The electric light commercial vehicles program is centered on a unique skateboard platform architecture designed for flexibility and scalability. This dedicated platform supports an 800V motor system, enhancing charging efficiency and energy management. The integration of SDV technology further positions these electric light commercial vehicles as digitally advanced solutions within the commercial mobility ecosystem.

Software-defined vehicle capabilities will enable continuous feature upgrades, optimized fleet management, and improved lifecycle performance. The 800V motor configuration contributes to faster charging cycles and better operational efficiency, which are critical for electric light commercial vehicles operating in demanding logistics environments.

Production and Workforce Commitment in France

Approximately 1,300 employees in France are currently engaged in the development of the electric light commercial vehicles program. Key activities are distributed across Renault facilities in the Île-de-France region, including the Guyancourt Technocentre and the Villiers-Saint-Frédéric Light Commercial Vehicle Center of Excellence. Manufacturing will be handled at the Sandouville plant in France, reinforcing the country’s role in advanced commercial vehicle electrification.

Product Roadmap and Market Introduction

The first model under this new electric light commercial vehicles lineup will be the Renault Trafic Van E-Tech electric, scheduled for launch from late 2026. The project timeline remains unchanged despite the ownership transition. Regulatory approvals are still required before the transaction becomes final, but development and industrial preparations continue as planned.
