Moskvich Traction Battery Testing Completed Ahead of Serial Production

On February 19, the Energy Storage Business Unit of Rosatom announced the successful completion of comprehensive validation testing for the Moskvich traction battery. The milestone confirms technological readiness for serial production following extensive vehicle-level trials. Test vehicles equipped entirely with the new electric vehicle battery demonstrated a certified driving range between 400 and 415 kilometers on a single charge, validating performance targets under real-world conditions.

The development program included durability and climate testing across diverse road environments. Cumulative mileage of the validation fleet exceeded 100,000 kilometers, ensuring reliability across varying temperatures and operating conditions.

Technical Specifications and Cell Chemistry

The battery operates within a voltage window of 270 to 420 volts and delivers a total capacity of 180 Ah. Performance benchmarks were achieved using a carbon anode paired with a nickel-manganese-cobalt cathode, optimizing energy density and lifecycle stability.

Manufacturing Roadmap and Gigafactory Development

Serial production will be established at the new gigafactory currently under construction in Krasnaya Pakhra, part of New Moscow. The facility represents a strategic expansion of domestic electric vehicle battery manufacturing capabilities.

Commissioning Timeline

Commissioning of the plant is scheduled for 2026, supporting large-scale supply for passenger car electrification programs and strengthening localized battery production infrastructure.

The completion of testing marks a significant step toward industrial-scale manufacturing and reinforces the transition toward advanced electrification solutions in Russia’s automotive sector.
