- Samvardhana Motherson automotive lighting plant introduces India’s first edge-to-edge single-piece long lighting production capability.
- The facility integrates high-tonnage moulding technology with rooftop solar and green energy sourcing.
The Samvardhana Motherson automotive lighting plant has been inaugurated in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a significant step in expanding advanced exterior lighting systems manufacturing in India. Announced on February 23 by Samvardhana Motherson International Limited, the facility operates under its 50:50 joint venture with Marelli, Marelli Motherson Automotive Lighting India Private Limited. The new plant strengthens local production capabilities for high-precision lighting modules tailored for modern passenger vehicles and next-generation design architectures.
High-Capacity Manufacturing at Sanand
The Samvardhana Motherson automotive lighting plant spans approximately 8,200 square metres and is engineered for large-scale, high-precision production. It is equipped with high-tonnage moulding machines ranging from 2,000 to 2,700 tonnes, enabling complex multi-colour moulding processes. This capability positions the facility as a benchmark for advanced exterior lighting systems manufacturing in India.
Edge-to-Edge Single-Piece Lighting Capability
The plant is the first in India capable of producing edge-to-edge lighting components in single-piece long formats. These include full-length daytime running lights and rear combination lamps designed to meet evolving automotive styling and aerodynamic requirements. The localisation of the country’s slimmest headlamp module further enhances domestic manufacturing depth while reducing dependency on imports.
Focus on Advanced Exterior Lighting Systems
The Samvardhana Motherson automotive lighting plant is dedicated to advanced exterior lighting systems that integrate aesthetics, functionality, and regulatory compliance. By manufacturing daytime running lights and rear combination lamps with high dimensional accuracy, the facility supports OEM demand for sharper illumination profiles and signature lighting designs.
Technology-Driven Production Efficiency
High-tonnage moulding machines at the Samvardhana Motherson automotive lighting plant enable multi-colour integration and complex geometries within a single moulding cycle. This approach improves consistency, enhances structural integrity, and reduces secondary assembly requirements, resulting in streamlined manufacturing efficiency.
Sustainability and Green Energy Integration
The Samvardhana Motherson automotive lighting plant incorporates rooftop solar installations as part of its energy strategy. In addition to on-site renewable generation, the facility plans to source open-access green power to further reduce carbon intensity. This sustainability-driven model aligns manufacturing growth with responsible energy consumption.
With advanced tooling infrastructure, edge-to-edge lighting capability, and renewable energy integration, the Samvardhana Motherson automotive lighting plant strengthens India’s position in next-generation exterior lighting manufacturing while supporting evolving passenger vehicle design trends.
