Quick Takeaways
  • CUPRA Raval enters the critical series 0 phase ahead of full-scale EV production in Spain.
  • Martorell plant upgrades and workforce electrification training position the facility for advanced EV production.

SEAT & CUPRA have moved into the decisive pre-production stage for the CUPRA Raval, marking a major milestone in their electrification roadmap. The CUPRA Raval will be the first fully electric vehicle manufactured at the Martorell plant in Spain, signaling the transformation of the facility into a dedicated EV production hub. With the project now entering the series 0 phase, teams are rigorously validating production processes, quality standards, and operational readiness before transitioning to full-scale manufacturing.

CUPRA Raval enters series 0 phase at Martorell plant

The CUPRA Raval has officially progressed into the series 0 phase, a critical step before serial EV production begins. During this stage, manufacturing systems, assembly workflows, and quality benchmarks are thoroughly tested under real production conditions. The objective is to identify and resolve potential inefficiencies while ensuring the Martorell plant meets the high standards required for sustainable EV production.

Validation of production and quality systems

In the series 0 phase, engineers simulate full operational cycles to confirm that equipment performance, automation accuracy, and quality inspection protocols align with defined specifications. This phase ensures that the CUPRA Raval can transition smoothly into mass production while maintaining consistent build quality and manufacturing efficiency.

Major upgrades at Martorell plant to support EV production

To enable large-scale EV production, approximately 160,000 square meters of the Martorell plant have been modernized. Production Line 1 has undergone a comprehensive transformation, incorporating 1,000 newly installed robots that enhance precision, speed, and automation across assembly processes.

The upgrade also includes 60 new stamping dies and the integration of a new PXL press, strengthening the plant?s body manufacturing capabilities. These investments ensure that the facility is fully prepared to handle the technical requirements of the CUPRA Raval and future electric models within the urban EV family.

Integrated battery supply through automated bridge

A 600-meter automated bridge now connects the battery assembly plant directly to the main production line. This infrastructure significantly streamlines battery logistics, enabling efficient and synchronized supply for the CUPRA Raval. The direct integration reduces handling time and improves overall EV production flow.

CUPRA Raval anchors Spain?s role in urban EV family

The CUPRA Raval will become the first model from the Volkswagen Group Brand Group Core?s urban EV family to be produced in Spain. This development strengthens the country?s position within the European electrification ecosystem and reinforces the strategic importance of the Martorell plant.

Extensive workforce preparation has supported this transition. Teams from SEAT & CUPRA and VW Navarra have collectively completed more than 560,000 hours of training focused on electrification technologies and EV production systems. This large-scale upskilling ensures operational excellence as the CUPRA Raval advances toward full series production.

Supplier ecosystem and industrial collaboration

The CUPRA Raval program is backed by a broad industrial network involving over 90 suppliers and 110 production plants. Approximately 70% of the awarded material costs are distributed across this ecosystem, reflecting strong collaboration throughout the supply chain. This coordinated approach supports localized manufacturing while reinforcing the long-term scalability of EV production in Spain.

With the series 0 phase underway and advanced manufacturing systems in place, the CUPRA Raval is positioned to lead the next chapter of electric mobility at the Martorell plant.
