Wey V8X Launches August 14 With 500 kW Hybrid Power

The Wey V8X will launch on August 14 as GWM steps up its push into China's premium hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV) market. Wei Jianjun, chairman of GWM, said on Weibo on Saturday that the large five-seat flagship SUV will be officially launched on that date. The Wey V8X measures 5,125 mm long, 2,025 mm wide and 1,821 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm. Its trunk provides 864 liters of capacity, which can expand to 2,225 liters when the second row is folded down. The vehicle is positioned as a large five-seat flagship SUV and represents another step in GWM's effort to compete in the premium hybrid SUV segment. With a full battery, the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, while the acceleration time increases to 4.7 seconds when the battery is depleted.

The model uses a 66.6-kWh battery and an 800-volt architecture, supporting 6C fast charging that adds 170 km of range in five minutes. Its CLTC all-electric range is 402 km, while its combined range reaches 1,659 km. These specifications give the V8X a combination of high output, fast charging capability and extended driving range as GWM seeks to strengthen its position in the increasingly competitive premium SUV market in China.

On the software side, GWM said users can start the vehicle, change lanes, make U-turns and park using voice commands. The vehicle also supports point-to-point Navigation on Autopilot (NOA). These functions add software-based vehicle control and assisted-driving capabilities to the V8X, complementing its hybrid powertrain and charging technologies. GWM is continuing to compete for market share in China's fiercely competitive premium SUV segment, where electrification, vehicle intelligence and advanced driving functions are increasingly important product differentiators.

GWM has already filed regulatory paperwork for an all-electric version of the V9X, a six-seat SUV measuring 5,299 mm long with two motors rated at 220 kW and 320 kW. The development indicates that the company is continuing to expand its electrified SUV portfolio alongside hybrid models. The Wey V8X therefore arrives as part of a broader product strategy covering hybrid and electric powertrains within GWM's premium SUV operations.

The Wey brand sold 7,725 vehicles in July, down 23.10% year-on-year but up 7.43% from June. Cumulative sales from January to July reached 52,239 units, representing a 17.29% increase year-on-year.
