Suzuki Motor Signs MoU To Study Next-Generation Mobility At Sabarmati Hub

Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Thoth Infrastructure Private Limited, a Delhi-based company specializing in transit-oriented development, and Glydways Inc. to begin feasibility studies for introducing next-generation mobility solutions at a terminal station in Ahmedabad, India. The initiative focuses on improving urban mobility around the future Sabarmati Multimodal Hub while supporting redevelopment plans for the surrounding area.

The Sabarmati Multimodal Hub is being developed as the terminal station for India's bullet train project. The study aims to identify practical solutions that enhance last-mile connectivity for passengers travelling to and from the station. By improving accessibility, the partners intend to create a more seamless transportation experience while supporting increasing commuter demand expected after the high-speed rail network becomes operational.

Glydways, a California-based mobility technology company in which Suzuki has made a strategic investment, has developed a Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system that uses compact autonomous electric vehicles operating on dedicated lanes. The system is designed to transport multiple passengers on demand while requiring significantly lower infrastructure investment than many conventional public transit solutions, making it suitable for dense urban environments with growing mobility requirements.

The three organizations will jointly evaluate the technical and operational feasibility of deploying the Glydways network within the Sabarmati area, where demand for short-distance urban transportation remains high.
