Nissan PCS-T Transformation Accelerates Vehicle Development Process
Nissan Motor Co Ltd introduced Nissan PCS-T (Product Creation System-Transformation) during a July 30 press briefing as an initiative focused on reducing vehicle development timelines. The company is restructuring its operations from development processes to digital technology utilization, targeting completion of vehicle development in as little as 30 months. Nissan’s Corporate Executive Kazuyuki Yamaguchi from the Product Development Division No.1, who leads PCS-T, explained that the company plans to apply the transformed process to more than 90% of vehicle model development programs.
The transformation initiative focuses on four major areas designed to improve efficiency and strengthen product competitiveness. The first area involves defining target performance based on vehicle selling points, ensuring development priorities align with customer value. The second focuses on improving design decision-making efficiency. The third area restructures the development organization by moving away from a consensus-based approach involving Profitability Director, Product Planning Lead, and Chief Vehicle Engineer roles toward a system primarily led by the Chief Vehicle Engineer.
The fourth transformation area involves applying digital technologies to verify mass-production capability during development. Through enhanced digital validation methods, Nissan Motor Co Ltd aims to improve development accuracy while reducing delays associated with traditional processes. The initiative represents a broader shift toward digitally enabled automotive engineering, where simulation, verification, and streamlined decision-making can support faster introduction of new passenger vehicle models.
The new Skyline will become the first vehicle model developed under the PCS-T framework and is planned for launch during the winter season ahead of its original schedule.
