MG has presented its latest technology roadmap during its Tech Day event held at the company's UK headquarters in London. The strategy outlines the brand's future direction for expanding advanced electrification and intelligent driving technologies across its global vehicle portfolio. The roadmap includes developments in hybrid powertrains, battery technology, advanced driver assistance systems, and autonomous driving, with several technologies scheduled to reach production models between 2027 and 2028.
MG outlines next-generation Plug-in Hybrid+ technology
The company introduced its new Plug-in Hybrid+ system, which will be offered with newly developed 1.1-liter and 1.5-liter turbocharged hybrid gasoline engines. These powertrains deliver thermal efficiency exceeding 42% and 43%, respectively. The system is paired with a newly engineered hybrid transmission incorporating Power Split and Motor Decoupling technologies to improve overall efficiency and driving performance. Production deployment will begin in 2027 with the launch of the MG ZS Plug-in Hybrid+.
SolidCore Battery technology targets higher efficiency
MG also confirmed the future introduction of its SolidCore Battery technology for upcoming Plug-in Hybrid+ vehicles. Compared with conventional liquid-electrolyte batteries, the new battery system provides higher energy conversion efficiency and faster power response to support next-generation electrified powertrains. The technology will first appear in three new Plug-in Hybrid+ SUVs spanning the B-, C-, and D-segment categories.
Advanced driver assistance systems continue expanding
The company is strengthening its intelligent driving capabilities using real-world driving data while adapting the technology specifically for European road environments and driving conditions. As part of this initiative, MG has introduced the One Touch iAD parking assistance system, which supports more than 30 parking scenarios and can recognize over 300 different parking space types to improve convenience during everyday driving.
Future autonomous driving roadmap
MG plans to launch Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) for motorway driving in late 2027. Under driver supervision, the feature will assist with motorway entry and exit, automatic lane changes, and overtaking to reduce driver workload. Highway NOA will debut on a new MG SUV, while Urban NOA designed for city driving is expected to arrive during 2028.
Level 4 Robotaxi development continues
The company is also progressing its autonomous driving program through ongoing Level 4 Robotaxi trials in Germany, the Middle East, and China. These trials form part of MG's broader autonomous driving development strategy. While testing continues across multiple regions, the company has not disclosed a production timeline for introducing Level 4 autonomous driving technology into commercial vehicles.
