MAN eTGX Debuts at IAA 2026 With 720-Km Long-Haul Range
MAN Truck & Bus presented its truck and van portfolio covering vehicles from 3.5 to 250 tonnes at IAA Transportation 2026 in Germany on September 14. The main focus was the new MAN eTGX, developed for long-haul transportation with improved aerodynamics, stronger energy recovery, and a new battery generation that provides 10% more usable energy. In its 6x2 configuration with seven battery packs, the electric tractor can travel up to 720 km without recharging, supported by a total battery capacity of 644 kWh. The 4x2 tractor weighs 10.7 tonnes unladen and can carry up to 25 tonnes, giving it a payload capability comparable to a diesel tractor.
MAN eTGX Adds Faster Charging and Higher Efficiency
The MAN eTGX can accept charging power of up to 750 kW, allowing its battery to be replenished in around 30 minutes. A new 4x2 ultra tractor configuration uses six battery packs totaling 552 kWh and offers a maximum range of 660 km, while typical real-world long-haul operation can exceed 500 km. A new 598 hp electric motor delivers as much as 480 kW of recuperation power. Combined with aerodynamic improvements, the system increases energy efficiency by around 3% compared with the previous eTruck generation. MAN will also provide 490 hp and 349 hp motor versions, with recuperation capabilities of up to 420 kW and 320 kW, respectively, extending the complete eTGX and eTGS output range from 333 to 598 hp.
MAN Expands Its Modular Electric Truck Range
The MAN Truck & Bus electric portfolio now includes the eTGL, eTGM, eTGS, and eTGX, covering applications from 12 to 50 tonnes. The models share a modular platform built around common high-voltage components and battery technology. This architecture allows the electric range to address different operating requirements, including urban deliveries, municipal operations, construction, and long-haul transportation. The eTGM uses a 285 hp electric motor producing 800 Nm of torque and can be configured with two to four battery packs. Its usable battery capacity can reach 320 kWh, enabling a maximum range of up to 480 km.
eTGL and eTGM Production Expand MAN's Electric Offering
The eTGL provides up to 310 km of range from a 160 kWh usable battery, while fast charging can raise its daily operating range to as much as 600 km. Charging the battery from 10% to 80% takes around 35 minutes. The model uses the same electric components as MAN's heavy-duty eTruck family, including 80 kWh battery packs manufactured at the Nuremberg plant in Germany and a 285 hp electric motor paired with a two-speed transmission. Production of the eTGL began in mid-July 2026. The new eTGM is scheduled to follow later in 2026 at the Krakow plant in Poland, expanding MAN's manufacturing base for its modular electric truck portfolio.
Electric TGE Vehicles Target Specialized Applications
At IAA Transportation, MAN also displayed two near-production electric TGE vehicles developed with Swiss engineering company Flux. The vehicles are intended for applications that require higher gross vehicle weights, all-wheel drive, and electric power take-offs. Both use a 119 kWh battery that provides up to 480 km of range, while 140 kW DC fast charging can raise the battery from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes. The two versions have gross weights of 4.0 and 5.5 tonnes. The larger vehicle can carry up to 2,500 kg, while both versions can tow trailers weighing as much as 3,500 kg, broadening the potential operating scope of MAN's electric TGE platform.
MAN TGE Receives New ADAS Features for 2027
For model year 2027, MAN is also upgrading the safety systems of the TGE van with new and enhanced advanced driver assistance systems designed for urban and delivery driving. The changes are intended to improve vehicle awareness, provide earlier warnings, and introduce automatic intervention when required. Production of the updated vehicle began in early September 2026 at MAN's Września plant in Poland. The safety upgrades complement the company's expansion of electric commercial vehicles by addressing driver-assistance requirements across delivery operations. Together, the changes show that MAN's IAA 2026 portfolio extends beyond electric powertrains to include safety technology and operational improvements for commercial vehicle applications.
MAN TGS 60.540 Targets Heavy-Duty Mining Applications
MAN's IAA Transportation display also included the TGS 60.540 8x4 BB mining tipper, which is approved for gross weights of up to 60 tonnes. The Euro 6 version is scheduled to launch first in Chile and Morocco, followed by Euro 2 through Euro 5 versions intended for markets across Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. Power comes from a 12.4-liter MAN D2676 engine producing 540 hp and 2,650 Nm of torque. The truck uses a MAN TipMatic 12.28 OD transmission with a retarder, together with off-road driving and ABS systems. This addition gives MAN's IAA portfolio coverage across electric urban and long-haul trucks as well as demanding mining operations.
Industry Impact & Outlook
MAN's expanded electric portfolio strengthens its ability to address commercial vehicle electrification across multiple operating segments, with the eTGX specifically moving electric long-haul capability toward higher-range and faster-charging applications. The combination of up to 720 km of range, 750 kW charging, modular batteries, and improved energy recovery could make electric trucks more practical for operators whose routes require substantial daily mileage. The broader rollout also links product development with production capacity in Germany and Poland, while the updated TGE safety systems extend technology improvements into delivery vehicles. Further deployment will depend on vehicle configuration, operating conditions, charging access, and the specific requirements of individual markets and fleets.
