Isuzu Secures JBIC Loan for South Carolina Truck Plant Expansion

Isuzu Motors Limited has signed a loan agreement with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) on June 30 to support the development of its new production facility in Piedmont, South Carolina, in the United States. The financing package, arranged through co-financing with MUFG Bank, Ltd., totals USD 283 million. Construction activities have progressed steadily since the company held a groundbreaking ceremony in October 2025. Vehicle production lines are already being installed inside an existing building as preparations continue for the plant's planned start of operations in 2027. The facility is being equipped with advanced manufacturing systems that provide both scalability and production flexibility, allowing multiple vehicle models and varying production volumes to be assembled efficiently on a single production line.

The production system has been designed to manufacture both internal combustion engine vehicles and electric vehicles without requiring separate assembly lines. This flexible approach will enable the facility to produce the N-Series Gas, N-Series Electric and F-Series Diesel truck models while adapting production according to future market demand. Such manufacturing capability supports Isuzu's strategy of serving customers with multiple powertrain technologies from one integrated production operation.

Production Targets and Manufacturing Capacity

The South Carolina facility will gradually assume production responsibility for North America-bound vehicles currently manufactured at Isuzu's Fujisawa plant. Once the transition is complete, the company expects the plant to achieve an annual production capacity of 50,000 vehicles by 2030. The manufacturing complex will span approximately one million square feet across more than 200 acres and is expected to employ over 700 people when fully operational.
