EVE Energy has announced significant progress on its battery manufacturing project in Debrecen, Hungary, confirming that the production base covers approximately 450,000 square meters and represents a total investment of around EUR 1.307 billion. The first development phase is designed to deliver an annual production capacity of 30 GWh and is scheduled to enter production in 2027. Positioned beside the BMW automotive plant, the project is expected to generate more than 1,000 local employment opportunities while strengthening the region's electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem.
The Debrecen facility will become EVE Energy's first European mass-production site dedicated to manufacturing 46-series large cylindrical battery cells for premium European electric vehicles. These batteries feature a full-tab structure combined with silicon-carbon anode technology to improve performance and efficiency. Their steel-shell construction is engineered to withstand pressure of up to 550 MPa, supporting enhanced durability and safety for demanding automotive applications while meeting the requirements of next-generation electric mobility.
Performance validation has already been demonstrated through BMW's Neue Klasse iX3 program. According to the announced technical results, the battery technology achieved a driving range of 1,007.7 kilometers while also enabling approximately 400 kilometers of additional driving range following a 10-minute fast-charging session. These performance characteristics highlight the potential of the new cylindrical battery platform to support premium electric vehicles with extended range and faster charging capabilities as production begins in Europe.
